She lifted her eyes and looked over.
In the middle of the crowd stood a man with a clean, striking presence.
It was him.
The undercover research expert she had crossed paths with overseas, Owen Hamilton.
During the chaotic escape back then, she had lost track of him. She hadn't expected to run into him here after all this time.
And his words just now—every single syllable was aimed at stepping on Dominic Lockwood and Cynthia Ross to elevate her. He was definitely doing it on purpose.
Why would he say things like that?
As if sensing her gaze, Owen looked back at her, raised his wine glass in her direction, and offered a faint smile.
Seraphina's expression remained perfectly cool. She gave no response and simply looked away.
Owen didn't seem bothered. The smile lingered on his lips.
At the same time, Dominic glared over, his face thunderous. "Owen Hamilton, you have no right to speak here."
Owen raised an eyebrow. "I'm just stating facts. Is that not allowed?"
Dominic's frown deepened.
The atmosphere instantly stiffened.
Ethan Harrington stepped forward to intervene. "Tonight is about charity. Regardless of the amount, every donation is an act of kindness. There is no need for comparisons, and certainly no need to ruin the peace."
Hearing this, Owen curled his lips. "Maestro Harrington makes a fair point. I'll keep that in mind."
His tone was polite, and his arrogant posture softened slightly.
Despite that, he still shot a mocking glare directly at Dominic.
Seraphina took it all in.
Did those two know each other?
And they clearly had some bad blood between them.
Before she could overthink it, Owen was already walking toward her.
His voice was significantly gentler than when he had spoken to Dominic. "Ms. Sinclair, we meet again. Thanks to you for saving my life back then. I never got the chance to thank you in person."
Seraphina's expression was calm. "It was nothing. Don't worry about it."
The smile in Owen's eyes deepened, though he didn't linger.
He looked down at the plate of pastries, then at the glass of honey water. His smile vanished instantly.
Three men, three different offerings, all thrust in front of Seraphina at exactly the same time.
The atmosphere was incredibly tense.
Seraphina looked at one, then the other, suddenly at a complete loss for whose offering to accept.
She gave a dry cough, reached out, and took the honey water from Gideon. Then, she gave Tristan an apologetic nod. "I'll eat the pastries in a bit. Let me get some water first."
Tristan quickly pushed the plate of pastries a little closer to her.
Gideon's expression was calm, betraying no emotion whatsoever.
Standing beside them, Ethan's face was completely devoid of its previous warmth.
Not too far away, Cynthia watched the entire scene unfold with crystal clarity.
The suffocating fury in her chest burned so hot it brought stinging tears to her eyes.
Why?!
Seraphina was nothing but a divorced, discarded woman from the Lockwood family. Why did she have men orbiting around her wherever she went?
