Julian chimed in. "I count as half a family member."

Ethan leaned against the wall, silent but showing zero intention of leaving.

They all started talking over each other, refusing to yield.

Watching their antics, Seraphina felt a mixture of warmth and exasperation.

She raised her hand. "Alright, alright, all of you go back to work. I'm really fine. I have a caregiver here, and both Xavier and Winona are at this hospital to look after me anytime. Go back to your offices and your projects. Don't waste your time hovering here."

At her command, everyone exchanged glances. Though reluctant, they eventually caved in one by one.

Chelsea tucked the edges of the blanket around her. "I'll come check on you later. Text me if you crave anything to eat."

Tristan placed the glass of water on the nightstand with a firm reminder. "Call me if you need anything."

Julian patted Zachary on the shoulder. "Let's go. Let her rest."

The group filed out in twos and threes, their footsteps slowly fading down the hall.

The hospital room finally fell quiet.

Seraphina let out a long breath and leaned back against her pillows.

Xavier pulled up a chair beside the bed while Winona flipped open her medical chart.

The doctor finally had room to enter. He gave Seraphina a thorough examination, reviewed her latest scans, and nodded.

"Your recovery is progressing nicely. Get plenty of rest. After a minor surgery next week, your leg will be back to normal."

Seraphina breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, doctor."

Just as the doctor was about to leave, she called out to stop him. "Doctor, could the surgery... be postponed for a few days?"
