Dominic's tone darkened. "Don't cook anymore. We have staff for that."
Cynthia smiled. "But I want you to eat what I make for you. Nothing compares to the care put into a home-cooked meal."
Dominic's eyes shifted. He picked up his fork and took a bite.
Cynthia watched him. "How is it? Good?"
Dominic nodded. "Yeah, it's good."
Cynthia's lips curled up, her whole demeanor brightening at the compliment.
She served him a little more, asking casually, "Any... news on Lily?"
Dominic paused.
He continued eating, his voice flat. "Not yet. You don't need to worry. I'll let you know when there's an update."
Seraphina's words echoed in his mind.
She had a point. Right now, the fewer people who knew about Lily's situation, the better.
Cynthia's smile didn't waver. "Okay, that's good."
She poured him a bowl of soup. "Eat up. Don't work yourself into the ground."
Dominic took a few sips, his gaze softening. "It's getting late. Head back and get some rest. You don't need to stay up with me."
Cynthia nodded obediently, stood up, and took the empty containers out.
At the door, she glanced back, flashing him a gentle, sweet smile. "I'm leaving now. Make sure you get to bed early."
But what Dominic didn't see was how quickly the smile vanished the second the door clicked shut.
Dominic took a few more bites. He hadn't eaten all day, so the food actually tasted pretty good.
After eating, he went back to work.
