He placed one bowl squarely in front of Seraphina before taking the other and sitting across from her.
"I made too much. Do me a favor and help me finish it."
Seraphina looked down at the dish, which smelled heavenly and looked surprisingly appetizing.
But she simply had zero appetite.
"I'm not hungry."
Gideon didn't touch his silverware. "Your body won't recover if you don't eat. You've almost fainted twice today already. If you keep pushing yourself like this, you'll collapse long before we ever find her."
Seraphina parted her lips, wanting to argue.
But Gideon swiftly interjected, "If you refuse to eat, I'll just have to feed you myself."
His tone remained entirely placid, yet it carried an undeniable undercurrent of absolute authority.
The corner of her mouth twitched before she reluctantly picked up her fork.
"Fine, fine. I'll eat."
She twirled some of the noodles onto her fork and took a bite, fully intending to just choke down a few mouthfuls. But as she chewed, her eyes instantly widened.
The texture was perfectly al dente, the broth rich and flavorful, and the seasoning utterly flawless. It was a million times better than she could have ever expected.
Taking another massive bite, she couldn't resist looking up at Gideon. "You're this good of a cook?"
Gideon replied with complete nonchalance. "When you've lived alone for as long as I have, you eventually have to learn how to feed yourself."
Seraphina took another bite, a sudden thought striking her. "With skills like these, you could easily coax Beatrice into eating more."
Gideon's fork paused in mid-air, a look of pure exasperation crossing his face. "I honestly don't know what it is, but she absolutely hates my cooking."
"The only person who can make something my grandmother refuses to critique is you."
Seraphina was momentarily stunned. The tips of her ears warmed slightly as she ducked her head to take another bite.
The memory of old Mrs. Cole looking incredibly satisfied while eating the meal she had cooked back at Laurel Heights surfaced in her mind, causing an involuntary smile to tug at her lips.
"How has old Mrs. Cole been doing lately?"
Gideon nodded. "She's doing well, though she talks about you constantly."
A surge of warmth enveloped Seraphina's heart. Once this nightmare was over, she definitely needed to pay the elderly woman a visit.
