Seraphina couldn't help but scoff. She pulled her phone from her pocket and tapped play.
Madeline's shrill voice echoed from the speaker:
"Just a useless burden, why waste money keeping her here? Better if she just died!"
"Once my son inherits everything from the Lockwood family, I'll make sure he cuts off your kid's medical bills."
"What makes you think you can compete with me? Let alone your kid, even Dominic is going to have to rely on my son in the future!"
Silence descended on the doorway.
The color drained from Madeline's face as her eyes widened in horror, staring at Seraphina.
"You... you bitch! You recorded me? You scheming psycho!"
Dominic's expression turned absolutely lethal.
He turned his head, looking at his sister as he enunciated every word. "How could you say something like that?"
"Dominic, listen to me..."
"Get out."
He cut her off, his voice dripping with absolute authority. "Leave, now. Stop making a fool of yourself here."
Madeline wanted to argue, but meeting those icy eyes, she swallowed her words.
Cupping her swollen cheek, she lowered her head and hurried past Seraphina.
Watching her retreat, Dominic turned back to his ex-wife.
He stayed quiet for a moment before speaking, his tone slightly softer but still carrying his usual lecturing edge.
"She crossed a line with her words, but she is still family. You shouldn't hold such a grudge."
Seraphina looked up at him.
She said absolutely nothing, turning her back and walking into the room. She grabbed the door handle and met his gaze.
"Get out."
Two clean, sharp words.
