Cynthia's smile shattered.

She instinctively turned her head to look at Dominic.

The man's face remained unreadable. He showed no intention of stepping in to save her, nor did he make any move to contradict Seraphina.

Cynthia waited for two agonizing seconds. When he remained silent, her fingers tightened involuntarily around his arm.

She took a deep breath, turned back to Seraphina, and forced the corners of her mouth upward.

"Soon."

Her voice was low, sounding as if she were trying to convince herself.

Seraphina nodded, her expression indifferent. "Well, congratulations in advance, then."

She stood up straight, tilted her head slightly in Cynthia's direction, and said airily, "Like I said before, make sure you two lock it down."

Cynthia's eyes widened.

She knew Seraphina was mocking her, but she couldn't figure out a way to fire back.

Rolling her eyes, she decided she was done talking to this woman.

Everything that came out of Seraphina's mouth was infuriating.

Refusing to look at her any longer, Cynthia turned her attention back to Lily and reached for her hand. "Lily, let's go home."

Seeing Cynthia reach for her, Lily immediately stepped back, hiding behind Seraphina.

"I'm not going back with you."

Lily's face was cold. "I'm going to my own house, and you're not allowed to come over."

Cynthia's hand hovered in the air.

The gentle facade cracked, but she quickly adjusted, leaning down and lowering her voice. "Lily, don't talk to me like that. I apologized for what happened last time. I still care about you very much. Please don't misunderstand me anymore, okay? Just forgive me..."

"I won't forgive you."
