He glanced at Tristan, then walked straight to Seraphina, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"You're too late."
Gideon looked at Tristan, his tone perfectly flat.
"She's with me now."
Seraphina stiffened, instinctively trying to pull away.
Gideon leaned close to her ear, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Play along, Seraphina. Let him give up."
Seraphina paused.
She thought about it and decided it was a good idea—this way, Tristan wouldn't waste any more time on her.
She stopped resisting, turned her head, and offered Tristan a polite smile.
Tristan stared at Gideon's hand resting on Seraphina's waist, the color draining from his face.
But he recovered quickly.
"Is that so."
He stood up.
"As long as you don't have a marriage certificate, I still have a chance."
Gideon stared back at him coldly.
"You will never have a chance."
Tristan met his gaze head-on. The two men locked eyes across the dining table, the air in the room turning suffocatingly tense.
Seraphina rubbed her temples, checked the time on her watch, and patted Lily's head.
"Come on, it's time for school."
Lily nodded obediently.
Seraphina grabbed her daughter's backpack and led her toward the door.
Gideon followed right behind. "I'll drive you."
Seraphina didn't object and got into the car.
Before Gideon pulled open the driver's side door and slid in, he threw Tristan one final look.
It was a look of absolute certainty.
Tristan stood by the door, his fists clenched tight.
He ground his teeth and shot a defiant glare back at Gideon.
