Winifred choked on her words.

"I give you fifty thousand a month. You call that nothing?"

Winifred froze for a second before stiffening her neck and shouting, "Fifty thousand? What can fifty thousand do? Are you trying to brush off a beggar?"

Standing off to the side, Seraphina scoffed inwardly.

Fifty thousand, and she considered it a beggar's wages?

She remembered the past, when she had to ask Dominic for living expenses. Two thousand five hundred a month, and Winifred would always make snide remarks, asking why someone who didn't make a dime needed to spend so much.

Whenever she bought a slightly better tin of formula for Lily, Winifred would nag her endlessly, accusing her of not knowing how to budget.

Yet now, pulling in fifty thousand a month herself, she thought it was too little.

Dominic stared at Winifred, his voice dropping a few degrees colder.

"Right. In the past, I gave you millions every month, and you used it all to subsidize your other son. Now that it's just fifty thousand, of course it's not enough."

Seraphina paused. Winifred's other son was Owen.

Dominic let out a cold laugh. "Mom, I'm not blind."

Panic seized Winifred, her voice completely losing its edge. "What nonsense are you spewing! Your brother is just... he's going through a hard time, what's wrong with his mother helping him out? You're his brother, you have money. Isn't it only right that you help him?"

"Only right?"

Dominic's voice lowered dangerously. "I supported him for years, and in return, he tried to kill me over and over again. He even went after my child's life. Mom, tell me, is that what I rightfully deserve?"

Winifred opened her mouth, but no words came out.

"And you call me heartless."
