Lily spoke with utter conviction.
After speaking, she glanced back at Seraphina.
Seraphina’s expression remained gentle, completely unchanged.
Although she hadn't voiced agreement, she hadn't objected either.
Lily unconsciously puffed out her little chest.
Just a few months ago, she wouldn't have dared speak to her father like this; back then, she would even compromise her own feelings to please Cynthia just to make him happy.
But now, she felt incredibly empowered.
A child didn't really understand what 'confidence' meant, but she knew she had the courage to say these things to her father now.
Dominic paused for a moment before finally nodding. "Alright, whatever Lily says."
Satisfied, Lily climbed back into the car.
Seraphina started the engine and drove out of the parking lot.
In the rearview mirror, Dominic stood frozen in place, his figure growing smaller and smaller until he disappeared around the corner.
She looked away, her grip tightening on the steering wheel.
Inside the car, Lily hugged her new helmet. She stayed quiet for a moment before suddenly whispering, "Mom, is Winifred really bad?"
Seraphina glanced at her daughter in the rearview mirror, a little surprised. "Why do you say that?"
"Winifred used to treat you terribly."
Lily lowered her head, picking at her fingers. "I know she did. She was always yelling at you, and so did his sister. I remember it all."
Seraphina felt a lump in her throat.
"Lily, the things that happen between adults have nothing to do with you. As long as you're happy and safe, that's all that matters."
Lily flashed her a sweet smile and hummed in agreement.
Dominic watched Seraphina’s car disappear from sight before finally withdrawing his gaze. Just then, his phone rang again.
It was Cynthia.
He frowned slightly and answered.
Cynthia's tearful voice came through the speaker.
At that moment, Cynthia was gripping her phone tightly, hiding behind a concrete pillar in the parking lot as she watched Dominic take her call.
"Dominic," she sobbed, her voice trembling. "I'm so sorry. I was too impulsive earlier, and I said things I shouldn't have. I know I was wrong, and I promise I'll change."
