On a brilliantly sunny morning, the shareholders of The Lockwood Group launched their final assault on Dominic.
Seraphina had just dropped Lily off and returned to her desk at the institute.
Her phone buzzed with a live stream notification.
"The Lockwood Group Shareholder Meeting: Board Members Mutiny to Oust Dominic Lockwood!"
She hadn't planned on clicking it.
But seconds later, Chelsea sent her a message accompanied by a popcorn-eating gossip emoji.
"Watch the live stream."
Seraphina tapped the link.
On the screen, the Lockwood boardroom was packed to the brim.
Dominic sat at the head of the table in a sharp black suit, his expression terrifyingly calm.
A middle-aged shareholder slammed his hand on the table and stood up.
"Dominic, you owe us an explanation today."
"If you are not the legitimate son of the Lockwood family, you need to step down immediately."
"We need a real Lockwood running this company."
A chorus of agreement echoed through the boardroom.
Someone even threw a stack of documents onto the mahogany table.
Another shareholder chimed in.
"Mr. Lockwood, it's not that we don't trust you."
"But the rumors are tearing us apart."
"The Lockwood Group cannot be handed over to a man with questionable origins."
"The board has already received a joint petition for your removal."
Dominic didn't even bat an eyelid.
He simply asked one question: "Did you bring the petition?"
The shareholder froze.
"If you brought it, read it," Dominic said, his voice flat.
Trapped by his own bluff, the shareholder stammered through a few lines of the petition.
Dominic nodded.
"Good. Put that in the minutes."
"We'll review the evidence together shortly."
Watching the screen, Seraphina picked up her mug and took a slow sip of water.
On the stream, Dominic raised a hand.
"Where are the reporters? Let them in."
The heavy boardroom doors swung open.
A horde of journalists surged into the room, cameras flashing aggressively, immediately adding several new angles to the live broadcast.
The chat erupted.
"Holy shit, the CEO called the reporters himself?"
"He's taking them head-on!"
"Fight, fight, fight!"
