Dominic took it and immediately tossed it into the nearby trash can.
Staring at her sheet music in the garbage, Seraphina realized a harsh truth. When someone doesn't love you, nothing you do matters.
From that day on, she never mentioned anything related to composing music to him again.
But now, after everything that had happened, how did he have the nerve to ask her about it?
Dominic stood paralyzed, his Adam's apple bobbing. "You... you told me?"
Seraphina looked at him, her gaze as hollow as if she were looking at a complete stranger.
"I mentioned it, and you told me I was delusional and warned me not to claim credit for someone else's work."
All color vanished from Dominic's face.
He remembered. It all came flooding back.
That day she had stood outside the study, holding the sheet music and waiting for two whole hours. When he finally returned, he hadn't even spared it a glance before throwing it straight into the trash.
"Dominic, is that look on your face regret, or do you just feel humiliated?"
Dominic opened his mouth, his voice tight. "Seraphina, I..."
"Stop talking about pointless things," Seraphina cut him off, her tone remarkably steady. "Mr. Lockwood, we are divorced now. Moving forward, aside from work, we shouldn't have anything to discuss."
She turned around and twisted the key in the lock.
Dominic took a step closer. "Seraphina, Cynthia lied to me. She was never pregnant, and she didn't write that song. I'm breaking up with her."
Seraphina didn't look back. Her voice was completely indifferent. "That has nothing to do with me."
"Seraphina..."
Gideon stepped forward, his eyes sharp and lethal. "Get the hell out."
Dominic stood rooted to the spot.
Gideon brushed past him and followed Seraphina inside.
The door slammed shut right in Dominic's face.
A moment later, a sweet, childish voice rang out from inside.
"Gideon!"
Then came Seraphina's gentle reply.
"Mom, why are you home so late today?"
"I went to buy clothes for Lily."
"Wow, thanks Mom! Gideon, come sit down..."
