On the other side of town, when Cynthia woke up again, the hospital room was still completely empty.
She sat up and snatched her phone from the nightstand.
The screen lit up—completely blank, without a single missed call or new message.
Refusing to accept reality, she dialed Dominic's number one more time.
"The number you have dialed is currently busy..."
She was still blocked.
She gritted her teeth and opened her messaging app, the red exclamation marks stinging her eyes with unshed tears.
Cynthia gripped the phone tightly.
It couldn't end like this.
She had schemed and calculated for so many years; she absolutely refused to let it all go to waste.
Throwing off the covers, she got out of bed, but her legs instantly gave out the moment her feet touched the floor. She gripped the edge of the mattress to steady herself before leaning heavily against the wall to walk out.
A nurse spotted her and immediately tried to intervene. "Ms. Ross, you can't be up right now..."
"Get out of my way."
Cynthia shot her a vicious glare, and remembering the brutal slap from earlier, the nurse ultimately didn't dare to stop her.
Leaving the hospital, Cynthia hailed a cab and headed straight for The Lockwood Group.
The car pulled up in front of the towering corporate building, and she pushed the door open to step out.
Just as she approached the revolving doors, two security guards reached out simultaneously to block her path.
"Please stop right there."
Cynthia halted, her gaze turning frosty. "I'm here to see Dominic."
"Mr. Lockwood has given explicit orders that you are not allowed inside."
Cynthia's face paled. "What did you just say?"
"Please leave."
The guard's tone was strictly professional, showing absolutely no intention of bending the rules.
Cynthia's chest heaved violently as she took a deep breath, lowering her voice. "Call Dominic. Tell him I'm downstairs, and he will see me."
"I apologize, but Mr. Lockwood made it very clear. When it comes to anything regarding you, we are not to see you, answer you, or announce your presence."
