He staggered, practically collapsing as he blindly reached out to grab her arm.
She took a sharp step back, her brows knitting in deep disgust.
But he had already lunged right up to her, his voice rough and ragged. "Seraphina... help me... I was drugged..."
He reached for her again, his fingertips mere inches away.
Her stomach churned violently, a sickening wave of revulsion rushing up her throat.
She viciously swatted his hand away. "Don't touch me."
As if he hadn't even heard her, he stumbled forward again.
"Seraphina... please help me... it burns..."
He clawed the empty air between them. "I said, help me!"
Before his fingers could even graze her clothes, a tall figure suddenly stepped into the fray.
Gideon grabbed his wrist in a vice grip and shoved him backward.
Dominic stumbled back several paces until his spine hit the wall with a dull thud.
She turned her head. The moment she saw Gideon, the frost in her eyes melted into sheer relief.
"What are you doing here?"
He angled his body, shielding her behind him.
"I was planning to pick up Lily and take you out to dinner."
"Then her teacher told me there had been an incident."
She blinked in surprise.
"I tracked her location immediately and rushed straight over," he added smoothly.
Just a few simple, understated words, yet they brought an undeniable warmth to her chest.
Behind them, Dominic struggled to his feet once more.
The drug had fully consumed him. His eyes were glazed over, his face flushed a feverish red. He could barely stand, yet he still clawed blindly in her direction.
"Seraphina... don't leave me like this..."
"I really... can't take it..."
His words were slurred, his steps weak as he lunged forward again.
Gideon didn't even flinch. He simply raised his hand and delivered a swift, brutal chop to the side of the man's neck.
Dominic didn't even have time to grunt before he crumpled to the floor like a puppet with its strings cut.
Gideon lowered his hand, his expression utterly indifferent.
He turned his head to look at Dominic's two bodyguards.
The men stood frozen, exchanging helpless looks, entirely unsure of what to do.
"Hold him up," Gideon instructed calmly.
Jolted back to reality, the guards hurried over and hoisted their unconscious boss up by his arms.
One of them hesitated before speaking. "Mr. Cole... what... what do we do about our boss?"
Seraphina cast a frigid glance over Dominic's limp form.
His face was a violent crimson, his forehead slick with sweat, his breathing heavy and ragged.
"He's just knocked out. The drug is still in his system, and it needs to be flushed out."
"I saw a pond out back when I arrived."
