Unloved Unwanted Unstoppable (Seraphina and Dominic) novel Chapter 85

She closed her eyes tightly, forcing the memory out of her mind.

She shouldn't think about it anymore.

After a long while, she opened her eyes, her gaze clearing up.

The way that car moved looked entirely intentional. It struck and then immediately sped off.

Did someone actually want her dead?

Seraphina shivered. It seemed that once she was discharged, she needed to visit the police station and demand some answers.

She composed herself and prepared to get some rest.

Just then, the hospital room door was pushed open.

Clara Sinclair rushed in, with Zachary Sinclair following closely behind. Both looked absolutely panicked.

"Seraphina!"

Clara practically sprinted to the bedside. Seeing Seraphina's condition, her eyes instantly welled up with tears.

"What happened? How did you end up in a car accident out of nowhere?"

Seraphina stared at her mother, completely caught off guard.

She figured that when she was admitted, the nurse must have asked for emergency contacts, and she had absentmindedly given her mother's number. Now, the hospital had called them in.

She reached out and took Clara's hand.

"Mom, I'm fine. I just twisted my back a little. The doctor said I'll be discharged soon."

Clara wasn't buying it. She gently lifted the hem of Seraphina's hospital gown and gasped at the massive purple bruise spanning her lower back, her lips trembling with heartache.

"You call this fine? It's horribly swollen."

Zach frowned deeply. "How did the accident happen? Where were you? Did you call the cops?"

Seraphina lowered her eyes.

"I was just waiting at the bus stop, and a car took the corner way too fast and scraped by. I lost my balance and took a bad fall. It's nothing serious, and the police have already opened an investigation."

From start to finish, she deliberately left Dominic out of the story, and completely omitted the fact that the car had actively charged right at them.

Clara didn't press for more details, though the worry in her eyes only deepened.

Zach gently ruffled her hair. "Next time you go out, let me drive you. Don't go that far out by yourself again."

Seraphina offered him a reassuring smile. "Go on, don't keep them waiting."

Zach turned and walked out of the room.

Once the door clicked shut, a peaceful silence settled over the ward.

Clara stayed by Seraphina's side for the entire night.

In the middle of the night, Seraphina jolted awake from a nightmare, her eyes immediately falling on Clara, who had fallen asleep resting her head on the edge of the bed.

Looking at her mother's graying hair, Seraphina's heart softened, a lump forming in her throat.

When the nurses came in for morning rounds the next day, Seraphina had just finished washing up.

Julian walked in carrying a massive fruit basket, with Victor Vane following right behind him.

The older professor was holding a large thermos. Seeing Seraphina sitting upright in bed, the deep lines of worry on his face finally smoothed out a bit.

"I heard you got hurt?"

Victor set the thermos down on the nightstand and unscrewed the lid, letting the rich aroma of chicken soup fill the room.
