Dominic cast a glance her way and walked over, his tall frame casting a shadow that enveloped her entirely.
"Not dead?"
Seraphina's voice was perfectly calm. "Don't worry, I won't die."
Dominic stared at the blood seeping through the fabric on her leg, his brow furrowing slightly.
A crowd of bystanders had already gathered. Some were pulling out their phones to call 911, others crouched down to ask Seraphina if she needed help, while a few young men inspected the crash marks on the guardrail.
"That driver was completely psycho. He almost killed someone."
"Did anyone call the cops? There are no cameras out here, finding them is going to be tough."
"Miss, are you okay? Your leg is bleeding, please sit down and don't put weight on it."
A kind woman helped her up from the metal posts.
Seraphina managed a strained smile for her. "Thank you, I'm okay."
Having confirmed that Cynthia was completely unharmed, Dominic wrapped his arm securely around her shoulders and guided her toward the parking lot. He never looked back at Seraphina again.
Cynthia, however, glanced over her shoulder at Seraphina, her eyes practically venomous.
The scene was still chaotic.
No one noticed the woman standing quietly in the shadows of the street corner.
Lauren Lennox was wearing a dark trench coat, her hat pulled low, her eyes churning with pure malice.
She glared in the direction of the parking lot, biting her lip so hard it turned stark white.
She had tracked Dominic and Cynthia all the way out here today.
She had spent so long scheming, slowly inching her way closer to Dominic, clawing her way up from the admin department to Design Director. She had played the gentle aunt for his daughter for ages, and was so close to finally securing that coveted position by his side.
But the moment Cynthia returned, everything went to hell.
Dominic's eyes never lingered on her anymore.
Lily, whom she had spent months coaxing, immediately clung to Cynthia just as affectionately.
Lauren clenched her fists tightly, a suffocating wave of fury burning in her chest.
She stomped her foot hard, turned around, and vanished into a dark alleyway.
Soon after, the police and an ambulance arrived.
Seraphina gave her statement to the officers and was loaded into the back of the ambulance.
By the time they reached the hospital, Seraphina's lower back was severely swollen. After a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed there were no broken bones, but the soft tissue contusion was severe and the subcutaneous bruising was extensive. He strongly recommended keeping her overnight for observation.
Seraphina tried to decline, but the moment she attempted to sit up, a piercing pain shot through her spine, forcing her to agree to the admission.
She was placed in a double room.
The bed next to hers was empty, and the room was blissfully quiet.
She leaned against the headboard, carefully avoiding putting any pressure on her lower back. Her mind kept replaying the terrifying image of that car hurtling straight toward her.
The exact moment the headlights flared, Dominic had brushed right past her, grabbing Cynthia and throwing them both into the safety zone...
