Chapter 11 One Hour Outside
Chapter 11 One Hour Outside
“I’ve always been like this. What, you’re just realizing now?”
Reina didn’t want to deal with them anymore. Luckily, it was her turn in line, so she stepped forward to get water.
One bottle of low-to-moderate Contamination Value water costs 20 points. Reina filled two bottles and headed back.
At the stairway corner, she ran into Easton and his group again.
She went upstairs. They went upstairs too, following her all the way to the fourth floor, watching her enter Room 59.
Reina would be lying if she said she wasn’t scared. But there was nothing she could do.
She was alone. There was no way she could take on an entire ability user team by herself.
Luckily, there was a bug outbreak outside. No one could leave except fully equipped mercenaries.
Thinking about the mercenaries gave Reina an idea.

Maybe she should join a mercenary group. In Greenfinch Base, mercenary members were treated like half-official staff and got certain perks.
But if she joined a mercenary group, the special nature of her ability would be exposed.
No way! Bad idea!
Reina immediately rejected the idea.
She thought about what happened in the dream. It felt so real and terrifying. Every time she closed her eyes, she could almost feel a cold, sharp scalpel slicing through her skin and stomach.
That sharp pain and endless despair felt like a snake strangling her soul.
That dream had to be a warning. She had a feeling that if she made even one careless mistake, the dream would come true.
So before she became stronger, she had to keep her powers a secret.
While she was thinking, Chloe messaged her, “Did you get the water?”
“Yeah,” Reina replied.
Chloe said, “The camp just sent a notice. We have to take turns going out to kill mutant rats. Did you see it?”
Reina froze and quickly checked the messages on her smartwatch.
Sure enough, the guard team of Camp 98 had sent a message. Everyone had to go out and kill rats in turns, or they would be banned from the camp.
Reina messaged Chloe back, “Just saw it. What’s the plan?”
“We’re going out early. Dylan said the mutant beasts aren’t very high level yet, and there aren’t that many. We can still handle it. But if they start swarming, it’ll get dangerous.”

Chloe sent another message, “So I wanted to ask if you want to team up with us.”
“Of course. How many people you have? When do we move?”
“Four of us plus you make five. We’re heading out now. You down?”
“I’m in,” Reina said, starting to pack her gear.
She had to bring the energy recovery potion, the flamethrower, two energy blocks, and some medicine and nutrition bars.
The room she rented wasn’t safe. She had to carry her valuables, or they’d get stolen.
Chloe said, “Cool. Get down here. We’re leaving.”
“On my way.” Reina threw on her pack, slung the flamethrower over her shoulder, and locked her door.
She grabbed her sharpened iron rod and headed downstairs. Chloe and the others were already waiting there.
“We have to register first. Then we head out.”
Chloe whispered to Reina, “The guards said we have to stay out there for a full hour. They won’t open the gate to let us back in until time’s up.”
Reina nodded, feeling a little uneasy.
She turned and saw Easton and his group coming downstairs too. They were lining up to register, looking like they were going out
as well.
Reina’s face darkened, and her guard went up.
Soon, the registration was done. Reina and Chloe’s group followed several other teams toward the came cate.
Chloe whispered, “Look at all these bugs. Good thing you gave us those two protective suits. Otherwise, we couldn’t even get out of the gate.”
Reina just smiled and didn’t say anything.
The moment the camp gate opened, the fully armed guards started shouting, “Move it! Get out there! Don’t let the mutant rats get inside!”
Nobody hesitated. They all sprinted out.
More than 20 teams came out. Each team had anywhere from five to 30 people.
Of course, the five-person team was Reina’s group.
