Chapter 12 Harvest in the Fight
Reina stayed on high alert, staring at the mutant rat in front of her.

It was over three feet long, built like a tank. Its buck teeth gleamed sharply, like they could bite straight through a person’s leg.
Its claws were sharp and pitch black. One swipe would easily rip open skin and flesh.
Its slick black fur looked like armor. When Reina stabbed it with her iron spike, the spike pierced the flesh, but it still wasn’t enough to kill it.
“Watch out!” Chloe and Dylan rushed over, guarding Reina from both sides. They raised their machetes and chopped at the mutant
rat.
After a few squeals, the rat finally died under their combined attack.
Reina didn’t relax because more mutant rats were already charging.
The five of them quickly stood back-to-back so nothing could sneak up behind them.
Reina raised the flamethrower and blasted jets of fire at the swarms closing in.
There was no other choice. With just the machetes Chloe and the others had, they wouldn’t last an hour.
Even if Chloe were strong, she’d eventually run out of strength.
As flames shot out, the rats’ fur caught fire. They squealed and ran around in panic.
That made it much easier for Chloe and the others to step in and finish them off.
They managed to push the swarm back, but before they could even catch their breath, another team came sprinting toward them
The problem? There were hundreds of mutant rats chasing them.
‘Damn it! Bastards!” Dylan cursed loudly and quickly told Chloe and Reina to retreat.
But the other team kept heading straight for them, clearly trying to drag the danger their way.
Reina recognized them immediately.
‘Easton! Francis! You’re dead meat!”
Her eyes narrowed. She raised the flamethrower and blasted fire straight at their team.
Easton and the others were shocked and quickly changed direction.
They’d been ability users for years. Their reflexes were far beyond normal people. With a few quick leaps, they avoided the flames
“Reina! What the hell are you doing?!” Francis roared, raising his energy rifle and aiming at her.
Reina didn’t dodge. She lunged forward like lightning and kicked the energy rifle out of Francis’s hands.
Then she grabbed his collar and used Harvesting Ability.

Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful…”
Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful. +50 EXP. Gained +2 Strength.”
Reina froze for a second, then felt a wave of excitement.
Francis also froze. His body suddenly felt weak.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t see his own stats. If he could, he would’ve noticed that his Strength attribute had suddenly dropped by a quarter.
“Let me go!” Francis shouted angrily. He grabbed Reina’s arms and tried to break free.
Being held by the collar by a girl was humiliating.
But Reina’s grip was like iron clamps. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t break free.
At the same time, Reina used her ability again.
Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful. +50 EXP. Gained +1 Agility.”
Reina was grinning ear to ear. She wanted to use it again, but Easton and the others had already closed in, firing ice arrows at her.
She had no choice but to stop and back away.
Her speed was so fast it was almost like an Agility-type ability user.
The ice arrows shot past Francis, but they didn’t even graze Reina’s clothes.
Easton and the others were surprised, but they didn’t stop to think about it. They grabbed Francis and ran.
Because countless mutant rats crashed in like a wave. If they didn’t leave, they’d be buried.
Reina fell back to Chloe and the others, raising the flamethrower and forcing back the mutant rats that surrounded them.
But the rats didn’t leave. Instead, they circled the five of them, their red eyes glowing with bloodlust.
“Move toward the wall!” Reina kept the flames going while they moved toward it
Seeing the flamethrower’s energy almost used up, she reluctantly took out an energy block and replaced it.
“It’s been 20 minutes. Hold on another 40 minutes, then we’ll rush the gate!”
Dylan wiped the sweat off his forehead while retreating, keeping his wife behind him.
Sasha nodded, but the hand gripping her machete was shaking
They quickly reached the wall. Reina blasted the base of the wall with fire, clearing out a dozen rats and torching the heap of bug corpses.
A strong burnt smell filled the air, but the five of them felt oddly safer
Seeing that the rats didn’t dare come close for now, Reina took a quick breath and turned to Dylan. “Give me your machete You take the flamethrower and cover me while I kill the mutant rats.”

She was broke. If she didn’t earn some points to buy energy blocks for the flamethrower, she wouldn’t last three days,
The size of this mutant beast swarm was definitely no smaller than the disaster three years ago.
If the camp fell, every regular person and low-level ability user would be nothing but monster food.
“Uh…” Dylan hesitated. After all, the flamethrower was far more important than a machete.

Reina grabbed the machete from his hand and pushed the flamethrower into his arms. “We have to thin them out now, or they’ll just keep grouping up until we’re overwhelmed.”
