Wasteland Queen: My Harvest Power novel Chapter 58

Chapter 58 A Quiet Life, and New Seeds of Survival

The world finally went quiet.

Finched

For the next two days, Reina went out every day to collect soil and carried it back to her rented apartment.

The place was listed as a top-floor unit, but in reality it was a sixth-floor loft extension-one bedroom, one living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom layout, with an unusually large balcony of over 215 square feet.

That balcony had already been enclosed by the previous tenant with double-layer tempered glass, turning in into a sealed glass room.

Reina planned to make full use of it and grow fruits and vegetables there.

But to cultivate low-contamination crops, the soil itself also had to be low-contamination. So, she intended to purify it using her skill.

First, she scanned a batch of soil with her smartwatch. The contamination level showed over 180.

It was so heavily polluted that it would never support low-contamination crops.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +5. Gained a pile of high-quality soil. Contamination Value: 5”

As expected, a pile of glossy black soil appeared after the skill was activated.

The remaining soil instantly turned into a gray-black mix filled with gravel and impurities.

Reina curled her lips into a faint smile and used the skill again.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +5. Gained a pile of top-grade high-quality soil. Contamination Value: 0. Promotes plant growth.”

She gathered the remaining third of the refined soil and placed it into a large wooden barrel.

In less than two days, the glass room was already filled with ten barrels of top-grade soil.

Reina then bought several types of vegetable seeds online-mutated tomatoes, mutated chili peppers, mutated leeks, and mutated beans.

These were all brought back from the wilderness by scavenging teams, with contamination levels between 200 and 500.

The base did have purification ability users, but they only accepted seeds under 200 contamination points, purified them into low- or mid-grade levels, and then resold them to official farms or private planters.

As a result, seeds were always in short supply, especially vegetable and fruit seeds, which were often snatched up the moment they appeared.

What Reina bought, however, were unpurified high-contamination seeds. Every single one was over 200, and the highest was over 400.

Because their values were too high, few people wanted them, which is why she managed to get them cheaply-only 500 points for four packs.

Finished

What most people didn’t know was that the higher the contamination level of mutated plants or seeds, the higher their potential grade.

Among her purchases were several Level 4 seeds. This made her extremely pleased.

High-level mutated plants grew faster and could still bear fruit even under extreme weather conditions

She carefully selected the Level 4 seeds and applied her harvesting skill one by one.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +10. Gained an excellent-quality Level 4 mutant tomato seed. Contamination Value: 12.”

Not bad. More.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +10. Gained a top-grade Level 4 mutant tomato seed. Contamination Value: 0. After planting, there is a chance to harvest Level 5 mutant tomatoes.”

Reina’s eyes lit up as she placed the golden seed aside and continued with the mutated chili seeds.

As expected, she obtained two more Level 4 top-grade chili seeds, which she immediately set aside for planting.

Then came a Level 4 top-grade mutated bean seed.

She planted all these seeds into separate barrels of purified soil and watered them with skill-purified water, then waited for them to sprout.

The remaining seeds were also refined twice using her skill, producing a batch of excellent Level 2 and 3 seeds, which she scattered into the other barrels and watered as well.

By the next day, all ten barrels had sprouted. The Level 4 plants in particular had already grown as tall as a water bottle.

Reina quickly searched online for cultivation guides and learned that tomatoes and beans required support frames. She immediately went downstairs to look for bamboo poles and wooden sticks.

But in the inner city, such things were not easy to find, so she had to order them online instead.

Only when she checked her balance did she realize that she was left with just 30 points,

“How did I become this poor?”

Then, she remembered. A few days ago, she had ordered two 10-foot-wide machetes. That had cost her 5,000 points.

She had been so busy these past few days that she had completely forgotten about it.

Even worse, today was the pickup day.
