Chapter 61 Routine Inspection
Finished
After finishing the fruit, Maggie spread its wings and flew off again. Less than an hour later, it returned, its beak wide open, carrying a red crystal core the size of an adult’s fist.
“Chirp! Chirp!” It dropped the crystal in front of Reina, then hopped proudly along the bamboo trellis, its tiny eyes occasionally glancing toward the barrels of mutated persimmons.
“Where did you get this?”.
Reina picked up the crystal and examined it carefully. After that, she activated her Eye of Insight.
“Energy -1. EXP +10. Target stats: Level 5 Ironthorn Beast crystal core. Contamination Value: 340…”
A Level 5 Ironthorn Beast crystal core?
“You didn’t steal this from the Falcon Mercenary Corps, did you?”
One of the reasons Camp 98 was destroyed was because the Falcon Mercenary Corps and Thunder Mercenary Corps had jointly hunted that Level 5 Ironthorn Beast.
Its core had most likely ended up in the hands of the domineering Falcon group.
How Maggie got it was a mystery, but if someone traced it back here…
Reina felt both amused and exasperated. Without hesitation, she activated her skill.
Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +20. Gained a Level 5 Ironthorn Beast mutant crystal core. Contamination Value: 23. Physique +2 permanently when absorbed.”
The crystal shrank to about one-third its original size. Reina held it, hesitating.
If someone had tracked the magpie or if they came here looking for the core and she couldn’t produce it… Would they kill her?
“I should’ve just left it alone.”
She sighed, feeling a headache coming on.
After a moment’s thought, she stored the crystal in her beast hide pouch, placing it together with the previous Level 3 core,
“Chirp! Chirp!” Maggie hopped closer, chirping impatiently, its gaze fixed on the persimmon barrels.
Reina sighed again and peeled another fruit. She cut it into cubes and placed them into its bowl.
The magpie happily devoured nearly half the portion in one go.
Two days passed, yet no one came looking.
Reina gradually relaxed. She continued going out to collect soil, and while she was at it, she harvested all the high-contamination fruits from that forest.

Chapter 61 Routine Inspection

After refining them into zero-contamination fruit, she kept a small portion outside and stored the restin
her pouch.
On the third day, the forging workshop finished the five machetes.
This time, Reina didn’t go pick them up. Instead, she had them delivered.
The shop owner didn’t argue and sent them over as promised.
After inspecting the goods, she transferred the remaining payment and immediately began refining them
Half an hour later, all five had been upgraded into top-grade weapons.
Reina kept two for herself and placed the other three on the living-room table.
She then messaged Victor, “Captain, your three machetes are ready. When are you coming to pick them up?”
Victor replied, “I’m on my way. Thirty minutes.”
Then, Reina asked, “Captain, can I borrow a truck? The kind that can carry five tons.”
“What do you need a truck for? Planning to leave the city?”
“Yeah. Going out to try my luck.”
“Alone or with a team?”
“With a team.”
Victor paused, then replied, “I’d advise against it. There are a lot of high-level mutant beasts roaming outside recently. Several teams have already suffered heavy losses.”
Reina’s heart skipped a beat. “Seriously?”
“Of course,”
Just then, Reina heard heavy banging on her door. “Open up! Routine inspection!”
Reina stiffened and instinctively glanced at Maggie,
Startled, it shot from the balcony straight into the bedroom.
Reina didn’t open the door immediately. Instead, she messaged Victor, “Captain, someone’s banging on my door, saying it’s a routine inspection. I don’t dare open it. What if they barge in and take your machetes?”
Victor’s reply came instantly, “I’m on my way!”
A faint smile curved on Reina’s lips. She quickly strapped her beast hide pouch to her waist.
Back in the living room, the pounding grew louder. “Open the damn door! If you don’t, we’ll blast it open!”
Reina frowned. She didn’t want them actually blowing the door open. So, she stepped forward and yanked it open. “What do you think you’re doing?” she snapped coldly. “Is this how you knock?”
