Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 205

Meanwhile, Seren and Nadine had left the mall and were now strolling down the adjacent pedestrian street, which was lined with food stalls selling pretzels, savory pastries, and kebab skewers. The air was chilly, but you could see steam rising from the carts, and the delicious smells wafted towards them from a distance.

After dragging her on a tour of all the options, Nadine emerged with a loaded flatbread sandwich in her left hand and a cup of stew and grilled kebab skewers in her right. They finally sat down at a small table at a soup stall and ordered two bowls of soup and a basket of dumplings—a mandatory part of their shopping ritual.

Their families disapproved of them eating from street vendors, constantly warning them that it was unhygienic. Unhygienic, maybe, but delicious. No one can truly resist the allure of good food. Nadine’s justification was always something like, "A little dirt never hurt anyone," or, "It’s just a little challenge for my immune system."

Seren didn't see anything wrong with it. These stalls might not be as clean or bright as a restaurant, and they were certainly noisy, but she didn't mind the cheerful chaos. It had a certain charm, a feeling of life.

Settling in, Seren sipped the soup the vendor brought over. It was garnished with fresh chives and crispy fried onions. The dumplings had thin wrappers and a delicate filling, different from the hearty ones Joyce made, but delicious in their own way.

Nadine, having already taken a huge bite out of her sandwich, pushed the cup of stew and kebab skewers toward her friend. "Don't worry, we won't run into those two eyesores, Carla and Slater, here."

Munching on her food, Nadine mumbled, "They think they're too high and mighty to come to a place like this."

It was true. The Bradleys always acted superior, demanding the highest standards in everything from their food to their clothes to show how different they were from ordinary people. That was something Seren could never understand. Everyone was small and ordinary in their own way; what was there to be so different about?

Seren pushed the food back toward Nadine. "You have it. I just got measured for my wedding dress. I can't eat too much. It would be so embarrassing if I gained weight and couldn't fit into it on the day."
