**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**
**Chapter 104**
Lena’s heart raced, each beat echoing in her ears as uncertainty washed over her. The way Titus had behaved today sent chills down her spine, igniting a sense of dread that clung to her like a second skin. She was acutely aware that if she were caught now, the consequences would be dire, spiraling into a nightmare she couldn’t escape.
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lena stuttered, her voice barely above a whisper, betraying her fear.
Queenie’s lips curled into a sneer, her eyes glinting with malice. “Deny it all you want, Lena. Mr. Goodman is already reviewing the security footage from the venue. We’ll find out soon enough if you really took that glass.”
The weight of those words crashed down on Lena like a tidal wave. In an instant, her legs buckled beneath her, and she crumpled to the floor, her face losing all color as the reality of her situation set in.
In a moment of sheer panic, she had snatched the glass during the chaos, her instincts overtaking her reason. Now, she realized that her actions had unwittingly sealed her fate, practically confessing to her guilt.
‘How could I have overlooked the cameras?’ Lena chastised herself internally, frustration and fear swirling together like a storm.
She felt utterly lost, her mind racing as she grasped the magnitude of her mistake. Desperation clawed at her insides, and her gaze darted around the room until it landed on Noreen. Without thinking, she lunged forward, clutching Noreen’s leg with a grip that was both pleading and frantic.
“Noreen, please! You have to help me. Just talk to Mr. Goodman for me. I was wrong, I truly was. I swear I’ll never do anything like this again, I promise!” Lena’s voice trembled, each word laced with urgency.
Noreen’s expression darkened, a heavy sigh escaping her lips as she regarded Lena with a mixture of disappointment and concern. “Lena, how many times have I tried to knock some sense into you? Are you really that clueless?”
“Noreen, I know I messed up. Please, just put in a good word for me. I didn’t realize Chiara was Mrs. Goodman. I swear, I didn’t know! I promise I won’t ever do anything like this again!” Lena’s pleas grew more frantic, her desperation palpable.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Queenie pulled out her phone, ready to document Lena’s breakdown for her own amusement.
Noreen took a step back, her expression resolute. “Lena, I’m not the one you should be begging. I can’t help you out of this mess.”
Reality crashed over Lena like a wave, and after a brief, stunned silence, she broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.
Thoughts of Elaine flooded her mind. ‘This is all Elaine’s fault. She set me up for this. It’s all her doing.’
Like a drowning woman grasping for air, Lena turned her gaze towards Queenie’s phone camera, her voice rising in desperation. “It wasn’t me! It was Elaine! She made me do it! She told me to! It’s all her fault!” Lena’s voice was a mixture of accusation and panic.
Queenie inhaled sharply, exchanging a quick glance with Noreen, who seemed to hesitate, weighing her options. “Queenie, should we consult Mr. Goodman about what to do next?”
Queenie nodded, her expression unreadable as she sent the video to Titus.
Moments later, Titus’s call came through, and Queenie stepped aside to answer, her demeanor shifting to one of professionalism.
“Mr. Goodman?” she spoke into the phone, her tone steady.
“Bring her over,” Titus commanded, his voice firm and unyielding.
“Yes, Mr. Goodman,” Queenie replied, her expression neutral as she returned to Lena.
Lena’s heart raced as she locked her eyes on Queenie’s phone, anxiety gripping her. “Queenie, w-what did Mr. Goodman say?”
With a blank face, Queenie replied, “Mr. Goodman asked to see you.”
Hope ignited within Lena as she realized that Titus was willing to see her after all.
As they arrived at the hospital, Lena felt a surge of panic, trying to retreat, but Queenie was having none of it. She rolled her eyes and gave Lena a firm shove.
“Why are you hiding? Weren’t you all bold just a moment ago? Do you really think you can escape this? Get in there already and don’t keep Mr. Goodman waiting,” Queenie snapped, her voice sharp and impatient.
With her jaw clenched and a deep breath taken to steady herself, Lena steeled her resolve and stepped into the hospital room.
Titus lay sprawled on the couch, his demeanor relaxed yet distant. Lena kept her head bowed, the weight of her shame pressing down on her.
“M-Mr. Goodman, I-I was out of my mind. I had no idea she was Mrs. Goodman. If I had known, even if Ms. Jensen forced me, I would never have dared to do something like this. Please, Mr. Goodman, just give me one more chance,” Lena begged, her voice trembling with sincerity.
On the way to the hospital, Lena had forced herself to breathe steadily, rehearsing her excuses over and over in her mind. She knew she couldn’t hide the truth about the drugging, but she was determined to drag Elaine down with her.
“Mr. Goodman, I’m begging you. I truly understand my mistake. Please forgive me just this once. I swear I’ll never do it again. Mr. Goodman, please!”
Titus’s expression darkened further as Lena continued to cry, her pleas echoing in the sterile room. He exchanged a glance with Noreen and Queenie, who stood by, their expressions a mix of concern and exasperation.
Queenie, sensing the gravity of the situation, stepped forward, covering Lena’s mouth with a hand and leaning in to whisper urgently.
“If you keep crying like this, getting kicked out of Halinston will be the least of your problems,” Queenie hissed, her voice low and dangerous.
Fear gripped Lena as she flailed, trying to break free and continue her desperate pleas.
Noreen intervened, grasping Lena’s arm and pulling her out of the hospital room, not allowing her a moment to resist.
“No! I don’t want to leave Halinston! Please, don’t make me go…” Lena cried out, her voice filled with anguish.
Queenie shoved her away with a look of utter disdain. “Just shut up! If you piss off Mr. Goodman any further, you won’t even get the chance to leave Halinston.
“Leaving Halinston is the only lifeline he’s throwing you. You know what happened to Francis. He got destroyed.”
Lena’s sobs quieted as she stared at Queenie, wide-eyed and bewildered. Was this really the same Queenie who always joked around?
“You…” Lena stammered, struggling to comprehend the transformation in her coworker.
Without engaging in further argument, Queenie turned to Noreen. “Noreen, maybe you can talk some sense into her. We’re coworkers, even if I think she totally deserves this.”
Lena covered her eyes, sobbing helplessly. “I swear I know I messed up. I truly regret it. Why can’t you just give me another chance? It was all Elaine’s fault! Why am I the one getting punished for this?”
Noreen’s expression darkened instantly, her voice cutting through Lena’s despair. “Lena!”
Suddenly, Lena let out a bitter, defeated laugh. “Yeah, I admit it. Chiara is Mrs. Goodman. I was clueless, completely oblivious. But why does that scheming witch Elaine get to play me like this?
“I’m sure she knows Chiara’s real identity, but she still pushed me into screwing up. So why does she get off scot-free while I’m the one taking all the blame?”
