Chapter 127
“Elaine, let’s put Mr. Goodman aside for now. What matters most right now is your career. You don’t want to end up with nothing, do you?” Sharon said.
Elaine shook her head and grabbed Sharon’s arm.
“No, he promised. He swore he’d take care of me. He made that promise to her,” Elaine insisted, her voice trembling.
Sharon looked confused. “What do you mean, he promised her? Who is she?”
Elaine’s face suddenly darkened. She clenched her fists and let out a guttural, anguished cry.
“Why do you always fight me for everything? Why is it never me? Why?” she screamed.
“Elaine.” Sharon jumped, startled by her outburst.
Elaine wrapped her arms around her head and let out a strange, almost manic laugh. Then she turned to Sharon.
“Sharon, how about we make a bet?” Elaine said.
Sharon stared at her, unsettled by the almost possessed look in Elaine’s eyes. A chill ran down her spine.
“Elaine, what… what are you betting on?” Sharon stammered.
Elaine’s grin twisted into something wild and manic. “I’m betting he can’t get me out of his heart. I’m betting he’ll never be able to get rid of me,ever.”
Sharon swallowed nervously, her voice shaky. “Elaine, what are you gonna do?”
Elaine took a deep breath. “Relax. For now, I’m not doing anything. But trust me, you’ll know soon enough.”
Sharon was genuinely scared now. She gripped Elaine’s shoulders, hoping to bring her back to her senses.
“Elaine, people make a lot of choices in life, but some of them only come once. You can’t afford to take the wrong path. If you do, we can’t handle the consequences,” Sharon pleaded urgently.
But Elaine just smirked. “Relax, Sharon. Stay with me, and I’ll make sure your future is golden. I never make mistakes, and I never regret my choices. You need to stand with me. Trust me, okay?”
Sharon felt a sudden chill run through her, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit wary of Elaine now, keeping a closer eye on her than before.
“Alright, Elaine. I trust you. Let’s make it to the top together,” Sharon replied.
“I’ve got plans with Eunice tonight, so I won’t be going back with you,” Chiara said, looking at Titus inside as
she pushed open the office door.
Titus looked up when he heard her, and seeing her just sticking her head in without coming in, he set down
and waved her over.
his pen
“Come in, let’s talk,” he said.
Chiara shook her head. “I’ve said what I needed to, so I won’t come in. Eunice is waiting for me downstairs. I’m clocking out. See you, Mr. Goodman.”
Titus could only watch her leave, then picked up his phone and sent her a message.
[Come home early, and no drinking.]
Chiara had just stepped into the elevator when she saw his message, and a soft smile crept into her eyes.
This felt like the normal life she’d always dreamed of.
She replied: [Got it.]
Eunice had already parked her car outside the company, waiting for Chiara. The moment she saw Chiara come out, she hurried over.
“Seriously, what’s up with you and Titus? Weren’t you making a big deal about splitting up just a while ago? Now it’s like you two never even broke up.” Eunice said.
Listening to Eunice grumble, Chiara felt a pang of guilt, thinking back to that whole thing with the PI.
“Alright, let’s get in the car first. I’ll explain everything,” Chiara said.
After Chiara finished telling her everything, Eunice gritted her teeth. “Are you serious? Lena actually had the nerve to do that? Is she crazy or what?”
“Guess jealousy really does make people blind,” Chiara said with a sigh.
“She’s totally nuts,” Eunice exclaimed.
Eunice took a deep breath and asked, “So, you just forgave Titus because of that?”
“He promised he’d never see Elaine again,” Chiara replied.
Eunice just stared at her for a second. “You actually believe him?”
Chiara’s eyes flashed as she looked Eunice dead in the eye. “Eunice, I swear, this is the last time. Been through a failed marriage before, so I’m not scared of another one. There’s nothing left for me to lose in this marriage except time.”
Eunice got what she meant and couldn’t help but say, “That’s just so you…”
Chiara tugged gently at her sleeve, teasing, “Did I make you mad?”
Eunice let out a sigh and shook her head. “Why would I be mad? I’ve always hoped you and Titus would work out. But you never really opened up to me all these years. I had no idea things were like that for you.
“As your best friend, as long as you’re happy, I’m happy too. Chiara, I just want you to live your best life.”
“I know. With you all by my side, I feel truly happy,” Chiara replied.
“I just hope Titus doesn’t let you down this time,” Eunice said softly.
Chiara’s lips curved into a gentle smile as she spoke, her voice soft but firm. “I’m choosing to trust him this time. He’s not someone who breaks his promises.”
Eunice honestly felt the same way. Titus wasn’t the kind of man to go back on his word.
“What about Elaine? How did he handle her?” Eunice asked.
Chiara paused, then shook her head. “I never asked.”
Eunice blinked in surprise. “Seriously? How could you not ask about something this important?”
Chiara said softly, “He just told me she won’t ever show up in front of me again.”
Eunice shook her head and let out a sigh. “Elaine’s a ticking time bomb. If you’re going to deal with her, you need to do it clean and thorough. No sloppy moves, no loose ends.”
Chiara just fell silent.
After a few seconds, Eunice suddenly said, “Alright, no need to ask. I already know where she is.”
Chiara shot her a puzzled look. “What?”
Eunice turned her phone around for Chiara to see.
“Impressive, huh? The Royal Dance Troupe in Eldravia. I can’t remember the last time they let someone Chinese join. Where’d she get the skills for that?” Eunice scoffed.
Chiara looked at the photo of Elaine with the dance troupe, and she suddenly remembered what Elaine had said before.
Elaine had mentioned that her cousin got into the Imperial Academy of Arts after getting in trouble at school.
