Chapter 126
Chiara sat out the morning meeting this time. The moment she imagined everyone’s eyes glued to her, she just couldn’t bring herself to go in.
Everyone would stare.
But when the meeting ended and Chiara got up from her seat, there was no way to dodge all those stares. coming her way.
“That’s her, right?” someone whispered.
“She’s really pretty. No wonder Mr. Goodman snatched her up so fast,” another person chimed in.
“So that whole thing with Ms. Jensen was just rumors?” someone else asked.
“Of course, Mrs. Goodman is here at the office now, and their relationship is out in the open. Guess that’s their way of shutting down all the gossip, huh?” someone else added.
Titus gave the crowd a quick glance, then walked right up to Chiara and took her hand.
“Meet Chiara, heiress of Lynch Group, and my wife,” Titus announced.
Chiara shot him a look, then nodded to everyone. “Hello.”
“Hello, Mrs. Goodman. You two really make a great couple.”
“That’s right, Mr. Goodman. So when’s the wedding? We all want to be there.”
“For sure, Mr. Goodman, you have to invite us all to the wedding.”
Titus raised an eyebrow and gave Chiara a sidelong glance.
“Whatever my wife says goes,” he replied.
Chiara just blinked, at a loss for words.
With all those eyes on her, Chiara forced a smile. “He’s just too busy right now, so we haven’t set a date yet. But if we do end up having one, you guys will definitely get an invite.”
“Sounds good, sounds good…” everyone chimed in.
Chiara waited until all the department heads had left before finally turning to Titus.
Titus lowered his gaze to her. “What’s up?”
Chiara gently pulled her hand away. “Mr. Goodman, we’re at work. Let’s keep business and personal matters separate.”
Queenie, standing off to the side, tried to stifle her laughter, ducking her head so no one would catch her
grinning.
Titus raised an eyebrow. “Sure thing, Mrs. Goodman. Your call.”
Once Titus disappeared into his office, Queenie spun her chair over and scooted right up next to Chiara.
“So, you and Mr. Goodman… are you two officially together now?” Queenie asked.
Chiara nodded. “Yeah.”
“Wow, that’s awesome,” Queenie exclaimed.
“Spill. How do you feel now that everyone knows you’re Mrs. Goodman? Happy? Excited?” Queenie pressed.
Chiara thought for a moment. “Honestly, it doesn’t really feel like anything special. It’s not the first time I’ve been in the spotlight like this.”
But she still remembered the butterflies and the rush of happiness she’d felt the very first time.
“Well, it’s a good thing.” Queenie grinned.
Chiara nodded. “I guess you could say that.”
“You two have to last forever. I’m your number one fan,” Queenie declared.
Chiara gave her cheek a playful pinch. “Alright, let’s get back to work.”
Just then, the CEO’s office received a visitor.
The guest was none other than Vera.
Queenie leaned in and whispered to Chiara, “Any idea what she’s doing here today?”
Chiara shook her head slightly. Paul was chatting with Vera, but then Vera suddenly looked over at her.
Queenie nudged her. “Hey, she’s looking at you.”
Chiara realized Vera had already seen her, so she just nodded back.
Vera chatted with Paul for a moment, then made her way over.
“Chiara… Or should I be calling you Mrs. Goodman now?” Vera said.
Chiara met Vera’s friendly gaze. “Ms. Combs, just call me Chiara.”
“Alright, Ms. Lynch. Sorry for the mix-up earlier. I really thought you were Mr. Yates’s girlfriend. I had no idea you were actually Mr. Goodman’s wife. Looks like I totally misunderstood the situation. Sorry about that,” Vera said.
Chiara smiled and shook her head. “No worries. Our relationship was never public before, so it’s only natural you didn’t know.”
Vera raised an eyebrow. “Alright then. I’m here to talk business with Mr. Goodman. Want to come in with me?”
Vera was gracious about it. She had a bit of a crush on Titus and wouldn’t have minded dating him.
But getting involved with a married man was strictly against her principles.
Still, maybe she’d come on a little strong the other day, so she wanted to set the record straight and make sure there wouldn’t be any weird misunderstandings later.
“No, that’s alright,” Chiara said.
Vera just shrugged. “Okay, I’ll go in first. Catch you later.”
Chiara gave a small nod and watched Vera head into the office.
Queenie leaned in and whispered, “Vera really doesn’t beat around the bush, does she?”
Chiara looked away and sat down. “Yeah, she’s honest.”
After their talk, Vera and Titus shook hands.
“Mr. Goodman, your wife is so generous and really knows how to treat people. She must really have a lot of faith in you. You’re a lucky guy,” Vera said with a smile.
Titus raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, Vera. Glad to be working with you.”
Vera smiled back. “Likewise. By the way, there’s something I’m curious about.”
“Go ahead,” Titus said.
“You and Mr. Yates are good friends, aren’t you?” Vera asked.
Titus just looked at her, not rushing to ask what she meant.
“I
grew up overseas, but I know the saying that a friend’s wife is off-limits. Mr. Goodman, your buddy seems a little too interested in your wife,” Vera teased.
She was sure she wasn’t imagining it; she’d already picked up on the vibe between Titus and Chiara that day.
But with how Jeffrey behaved that day, she hadn’t really given it much thought at the time.
Now that she thought about it, the whole situation was actually kind of amusing.
Jeffrey must’ve known Chiara was Titus’s wife from the start, but he was being so attentive to her right in front of Titus. Who would believe he didn’t have some other motive?
“Mr. Goodman, you’d better keep an eye out. Someone might try to swoop in and steal your wife,” Vera teased.
Titus smiled. “Appreciate the warning.”
