Chapter 129
Seeing how curious Chiara was, Titus pulled her onto his lap. “He’s a real pro on Vista Street. He’s saved several struggling companies with his own methods.”
Chiara understood what he meant.
“So that’s why Heather brought Kason in to be the CEO of Lynch Group?” she asked.
“Yeah,” Titus replied.
Chiara stared at Kason’s photo and blurted out, “How old is this guy, anyway?”
But before she could get an answer, Titus tilted her chin up to face him. “Hey, what are you doing?” she grumbled.
Titus narrowed his eyes at her. “Why do you care how old he is? Got a crush or something?”
Chiara squinted right back at him. “What, are you jealous now?”
Titus let out a short laugh. “Me? Jealous? As if.”
Chiara smirked, looping her arms around his neck. “Just curious, so, is Kason married?”
“Nope, he’s my age,” Titus replied.
“Pretty impressive for someone so young,” Chiara teased.
Titus stared at her. “Are you teasing me on purpose?”
Seeing his pouty face, Chiara leaned in and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Just like you, super capable,” she teased.
Titus gave a little huff, turned his face away, and pointed to his other cheek.
Chiara grinned and leaned in to give it a gentle kiss.
Titus tilted her chin up and kissed her lips, then murmured, “Let’s go eat.”
“Okay,” Chiara said, sitting back down. But she couldn’t help noticing that her appetite had really picked up lately.
After they finished eating, she looked at the leftovers and frowned. “Did you notice my appetite’s gotten bigger lately?” she asked.
Titus just raised an eyebrow. “Have you?”
“Yeah, it’s totally your fault. You keep pushing me to eat more, so now my stomach’s stretched out,” she tease
him.
“It is a blessing,” Titus replied.
“That just makes me a pig, huh?” Chiara teased.
After a bit more banter, they headed off to work.
For the past two weeks, they’d been practically glued to each other, heading to the office together in the morning and coming home together at night.
Everyone at the company knew just how close the couple was.
More than a few reporters had caught them laughing and chatting as they walked to and from work.
Thanks to Titus and Kason’s involvement, Lynch Group was suddenly the hottest name in town.
Everything seemed to be going their way.
Meanwhile, overseas, Elaine was scrolling through the news from back home and let out a cold laugh.
“Such a blissful life, huh…” Elaine said.
Sharon glanced at her phone and switched it off. “The principal wants you to focus on your dancing. Your debut performance is next week. You can’t afford any slip-ups. Don’t bother with these news stories. They’ll just mess with your head.”
Elaine clenched her fists and shut her eyes. “I get it. I know what I need to do.”
Sharon let out a sigh as she cleaned up the wound on Elaine’s foot. “Elaine, you work your butt off every day. We can’t let all that hard work go down the drain now.”
Elaine gritted her teeth, her eyes shadowed and intense, a cold smile curling on her lips.
“Don’t worry. I’m not giving up. If something belongs to me, I won’t let anyone take it away,” she said, her voice low and fierce.
“Just call it a night and get some rest. Don’t overdo it,” Sharon urged.
Elaine nodded. “Alright. You’ve worked hard. Go get some sleep.”
Sharon shot her a glance and nodded. “Alright, I’m going to bed. If you need anything, just call me.”
“Yeah…” Elaine murmured.
Once Sharon was gone, Elaine took out a family photo.
It showed the four of them together, but sadly, three of them had already passed away.
Elaine gripped the frame hard, her gaze icy as she fixed her eyes on the faces in the picture.
“Chiara, don’t worry. The fame will be mine, and so will he. I’m not like you, weak and useless. Whatever I want, I’ll make sure I get it, no matter the cost. Yes, I’ll do whatever it takes,” she hissed.
With that, Elaine hurled the frame into a corner, her whole presence dark and menacing.
She grabbed her phone and tried calling Titus again, but it still wouldn’t go through. She knew he’d blocked
her.
So she called Paul instead.
Paul finally picked up on the second try.
“Ms. Jensen, it’s pretty late. Shouldn’t you be getting some rest?” Paul asked.
“Paul, I’m performing next week. Does Titus have time to come watch me?” Elaine asked.
“Sorry, Ms. Jensen, but I don’t think you really get where Mr. Goodman stands. He’s already said he won’t be seeing you,” Paul replied.
Elaine bit her lip. “Is he happy now? I’ve seen the news from back home. They seem pretty close, don’t they?”
Paul didn’t hold back. ‘Yeah, Mr. Goodman’s doing great these days. I hope you can focus on your own life too, and we can just stay out of each other’s way. Unless it’s something important, please don’t call me again.
Elaine stared at her phone after the call ended, but instead of losing it, she suddenly burst out laughing.
“Why are you all so cold to me? Why…” Elaine muttered to herself.
Then, out of nowhere, she started laughing again. “You made me this way. Every single one of you. This is all on you.” Elaine hissed.
About a week later, Chiara wasn’t feeling quite herself.
Since it was Saturday and she had the day off, she called up Eunice to tag along to the hospital.
“Why didn’t you drag Titus along? Where’s he anyway?” Eunice teased.
“He left for Harborton yesterday afternoon. He won’t be back until the day after tomorrow,” Chiara replied.
Eunice looked her up and down. “So, where exactly are you feeling off?”
Chiara frowned. “I’ve kind of lost my appetite lately, and I keep feeling nauseous…”
Eunice’s eyes went wide. “Wait, nauseous? Are you… pregnant?”
