Chapter 130
Chiara finally felt certain she was really pregnant. She took the test results and smiled to herself in relief.
“Thank you,” she said.
Eunice peered at the test results, still not really getting it. “You should call Titus right now and tell him the good news.”
Chiara couldn’t help but smile. “I’ll wait until he gets back and tell him in person.”
“Yeah, that’s way better. Big news like this should be shared face-to-face,” Eunice agreed, reaching out and placing her hand gently on Chiara’s belly.
“It’s honestly kind of magical. In just a few months, there’ll be a little one growing here. I can’t wait to find out if it’s a boy or a girl,” Eunice said.
Chiara lowered her gaze, her smile unusually tender. “Boy or girl, I’ll love them all the same.”
“Of course. How could you not love your own kid?” Eunice replied.
“I’m going to tell Heather the good news,” Chiara said.
“Sure, I’ll drive you over. You’re basically a national treasure now,” Eunice teased.
“Come on, it’s not that big of a deal,” Chiara said, rolling her eyes.
“It absolutely is. You’re carrying the future heir of the Goodman Group. That’s priceless,” Eunice insisted.
Chiara stroked her belly with a loving, motherly tenderness and said softly, “All I want is for my child to grow up happy and healthy.”
By now, everyone at the company knew exactly who Chiara was, so as soon as she walked in, the staff immediately came over to greet her.
“Mrs. Goodman, are you here to see Ms. Lynch?” one of them asked.
Chiara had gotten used to being called “Mrs. Goodman” these days, though it had felt a little strange at first.
“Is Ms. Lynch around?” Chiara asked.
“Yes, she’s here.” the staff member replied.
“I’ll head up to see her. You guys get back to it,” Chiara said.
“Yes, Mrs. Goodman,” the-staff member replied.
Eunice hooked her arm through Chiara’s and walked with her into the elevator, giving her a playful wink.
“Oh, Mrs. Goodman…” Eunice teased.
Chiara shot her a look. “Cut it out.”
“Mrs. Goodman, now that you’ve got the future Goodman heir on board, you’re basically a VIP around here, Eunice joked.
Chiara couldn’t help but smile, her eyes full of pure joy and excitement.
She’d always loved kids, but since she and Titus had always been careful, she’d never asked for more.
This baby came out of nowhere, but for her, it was a sweet surprise.
Heather’s assistant and secretary looked surprised to see Chiara, and there was an awkward, uneasy look in their eyes.
“Ms. Lynch? What brings you here?” the assistant asked.
Chiara was so caught up in the joy of being pregnant that she didn’t notice anything off about them.
“I’m here to see Heather. Is she in her office?” Chiara asked.
The two exchanged a glance. “Yeah, she’s here, she’s here…”
Chiara didn’t notice a thing, but Eunice picked up on the weird vibe right away.
Still, Eunice kept quiet, just as curious about why the two were acting all secretive and awkward.
‘Is something going on in there?’ Eunice wondered.
Just as she was thinking that, Chiara had already pushed open the office door.
“Hea…” Chiara started, but before she could even get the word out, the scene inside hit her like a ton of bricks.
Even Eunice sucked in a sharp breath, unable to hide her shock.
The assistant and secretary behind them bowed their heads even lower, not daring to glance up.
Anyone else, they might’ve tried to stop, but Chiara? No way.
Before, they wouldn’t have dared. Now that she’s Mrs. Goodman? Not in a million years.
Chiara just stood there, staring at the two people wrapped up together on the couch, her expression totally blank.
Kason heard the door open and glanced over, but he didn’t look even a little embarrassed about being caught. Instead, he just gave them a confident smile.
“Hey there,” he said, totally unfazed.
But when Heather saw the stunned look on Chiara’s face, she instantly panicked. She tried to push Kason off her, but he wouldn’t budge.
“Kason,” she cried out.
Kason glanced down at her, raising an eyebrow at her flistered state. He leaned in.
“I always thought you were totally unflappable. Turns out you can get flustered too, huh?” he teased.
Heather bit her lip, shooting him a warning look.
“Get off me,” she snapped.
Kason let out a low chuckle and slowly got up from Heather, taking his time to straighten his clothes. His eyes landed on Chiara, who was still standing there, totally stunned.
“So you must be Mrs. Goodman?” he said.
Chiara finally snapped out of it, but her eyes were still a little out of it as her gaze flickered between Heather and Kason, trying to make sense of what she was seeing.
Eunice couldn’t help but speak up. “So you’re Kason?”
Kason tilted his head, flashing Eunice a gentlemanly smile. “Hello, Ms. Murphy.”
Eunice blinked in surprise. “Wait, you actually know me?”
“Of course. Since I’ll be staying in Halinston for the next two years, I figured I should get familiar with everyone around here,” Kason replied.
Eunice nodded, her tone casual. “Gotcha…”
Heather sat up, ran her fingers through her messy hair to tidy it, then turned to face them, looking a bit flustered.
“Chiara, Eunice, what are you two doing here?” Heather asked, surprise flickering in her eyes.
Eunice shot Chiara a look and nudged her gently.
“Chiara’s got some big news to share with you, so I tagged along,” Eunice chimed in.
Chiara blinked, glancing at Heather, pressing her lips together lightly.
The moment their eyes met, they instantly knew what the other was thinking.
“Kason, could you give us a moment? I need to talk to my sister. We’ll go over what you mentioned later,” Heather said, sounding all business.
Kason raised an eyebrow, letting out a low chuckle at how serious she was being.
“Sure thing,” he replied.
Eunice shot a look at Chiara and Heather, then grinned. “Alright, go ahead and talk. I’ll wait outside.”
And just like that, it was just the two left in the office.
Heather walked over to Chiara and looked at her. “What’s up? What’s the big news you had to come all the way to the office to tell me?”
Chiara blinked at her, but she was practically bursting with excitement. She just couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“You and him… are you guys…” Chiara stammered.
Heather realized there was no point hiding it anymore. She squeezed Chiara’s hand and said quietly, “We’re just taking what we need from each other, that’s all.”
Chiara fell silent, frowning. “Heather…”
She clearly didn’t approve of Heather’s choice.
Heather just gave her a small, knowing smile. “Seriously, you don’t need to worry about me. I know what I’m doing. It’s actually pretty fair between us.”
Chiara started to say something, but stopped herself. ‘Really, what could I say?’
She wasn’t some innocent kid anymore. After seeing how close they were, she knew exactly what was going
Chances were, whatever lines there were to cross, they’d already crossed them ages ago.
“So that’s why Kason agreed to work with Lynch Group?” Chiara asked.
“Yeah, two years. He won’t be getting the short end of the stick,” Heather replied.
Chiara was at a loss for words again, so she just stayed quiet.
Heather gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “What’s wrong? You still haven’t told me what good news brought you all the way here.”
Chiara looked up at her, then guided Heather’s hand to her belly.
Heather’s eyes lit up in surprise and delight.
“Chiara, you…” Heather blurted out, still in shock.
“Guess what, Heather? You’re about to be an aunt.” Chiara said.
Heather was totally caught off guard, but her face lit up with joy at the news.
“Such great news. Did you tell Grandpa yet?” Heather asked, her voice bubbling with excitement.
“Not yet. You’re the second to know. Eunice was the first; she was with me at the hospital,” Chiara replied.
Heather asked, “Have you told Titus yet?”
Chiara nodded. “I want to wait until he gets back and tell him in person”
“That’s a good idea,” Heather said, resting her hand gently on Chiara’s belly.
Just outside Kason’s office, Eunice knocked on his door.
Kason was on a call, but when he turned and saw Eunice, he arched his brow, wrapped up the conversation in a few words, and hung up.
“Ms. Murphy, is there something I can help you with?” he asked.
Eunice nodded, her eyes lighting up. “Kason, I’m actually a big fan. When I was studying overseas, your reputation was everywhere. I kept hearing about you, but never got the chance to meet you. I can’t believe I’m finally seeing you here in person.”
Kason arched an eyebrow and pointed to the guest sofa. “I’m honored. Please, have a seat.”
Eunice plopped down on the sofa, her eyes darting around Kason’s office. She just couldn’t fight off her burning curiosity. Her inner gossip queen was practically jumping out.
“Kason, you and Heather… are you guys…” Eunice asked.
Kason’s lips curled into a faint smile. “That’s really up to her to answer.”
Eunice pressed her lips together, her look said it all.
“Kason, Heather really is a good girl,” Eunice said, meaning every word.
Kason squinted at her. “Yeah, I know.”
Back when Eunice was studying overseas, there was no way she hadn’t heard all the wild stories about Kason’s love life.
He changed girlfriends more often than she swapped purses.
Thinking back to what she’d just walked in on, Eunice couldn’t help but speak up again.
“Mr. Bradford, Chiara and Heather might seem totally different, but they’re still sisters, both stubborn as hell, and when it comes to love, they don’t mess around.
“If you’re not genuinely into Heather, I hope you won’t use any of your usual playboy moves on her. Can you promise me that?” Eunice said.
