Chapter 154
Chapter 154
Paul followed Titus out of the hospital, his mind still replaying that last question Titus had asked: “What happened to the fetus?”
Yves looked a little taken aback, but answered anyway. “It was just an early embryo. When it came out, it was nothing but a mess of blood. Stuff like that gets tossed out with the medical waste.”
At that moment, Paul saw Titus’s expression turn grim.
That was his and Chiara’s child, and in the end, it was discarded like it was nothing.
Once they were in the car, Paul drove quietly, occasionally glancing at Titus in the back.
He had his bandaged hand over his forehead, making it hard to see his face. Either way, Titus definitely wasn’t taking it well.
Just then, an airplane flew overhead, its shadow passing over the car.
Titus was still waiting for Chiara to call.
A week later, he went back to the Goodman manor and finally got a straight answer from Debby.
Chiara was gone; she’d already left Halinston. She’d listened to those recordings, but she never made the call he’d been waiting for.
Titus stood in the courtyard, smoking in nothing but a thin shirt. The evening wind was biting cold, but he didn’t seem to notice the chill at all.
Adele walked over with his coat and gently draped it over his shoulders.
Her eyes fell on his hand, now free of bandages, and she frowned. “Your body is your own, you know. You really should take better care of yourself. Remember who you are, and what kind of responsibilities you have on your shoulders.”
Titus was the CEO of Goodman Group, and countless employees depended on him to make a living.
He was carrying not just the Goodman family, but the livelihoods of thousands of families.
Titus stubbed out his cigarette, turned around, and pulled Adele’s shawl snug around her shoulders. His voice was low as he replied, “Alright, I know.”
“Are you losing weight?” Adele watched him quietly.
Paul stood off to the side. ‘He’s definitely lost weight. His meals are all over the place, sometimes he just lives on coffee and doesn’t touch food at all.’
Even when Paul tried to talk sense into him, it never worked. Titus would just shoot him down with a cold remark or ignore him completely.
He was about to speak up, but when Titus gave him a warning look, he just lowered his head and shut his mouth.
“You sent someone to Eldravia, didn’t you?” Titus asked.
“So you know.” Adele paused, glanced at him, and didn’t deny it.
“Yeah, Titus replied quietly. “It’s getting cold. Let’s head inside.”
Adele frowned as she watched his noticeably thinner figure. ‘How did he get so thin in just a week?’

Chapter 154
“Was what happened to her leg really just an accident?” Adele asked.
Paul’s heart skipped a beat; he couldn’t help but glance up at Adele. She shot him a look, and Paul quickly lowered his head again.
Titus stopped in his tracks. “No.”
Then he started walking again, and Paul hurried after him.
Adele’s brows knitted together, her lips pressed into a thin line, her expression a tangle of emotions.
A week ago, she’d sent someone to Eldravia.
She’d always been reasonable and easy to talk to, but Chiara was her daughter-in-law, which meant she was part of the Goodman family.
She wasn’t going to let Elaine get away with it so easily after making her lose a grandchild.
However, what Adele hadn’t seen coming was the news that Elaine had ended up in the hospital after a bad car crash.
It was way too much of a coincidence. Elaine survived, but her legs were shattered; she’d never dance again.
Adele couldn’t help but suspect something. Now, hearing Titus admit it himself, her emotions were a tangled mess.
He used to shield Elaine from everything, but now he’d hit her so hard she’d never recover.
“Honey, what are you looking at?” Charlie suddenly asked.
Adele didn’t even glance at him, her voice calm. “Just thinking about who our son takes after.”
“Probably you, right?” Charlie frowned.
Adele nodded, finally turning to look at him. “Exactly. He’s just like me, holds a grudge.”
Charlie was speechless.
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “Honey, I’ve been crashing in the guest room for a whole week. Can you let me sleep in our bed tonight?”
Adele just shot him a frosty look and walked straight into the villa.
Charlie looked up at the sky. ‘Great, even the sky’s gloomy. Guess I’ll be sleeping alone again tonight.’
“Honey, I really get it, I messed up. But don’t take it out on me. You should be mad at our son, not me. Come on, honey,” Charlie called after her.

“Get out! All of you, get out! I want to see Titus! I need to see him! I have to see him!
“No way! This can’t be happening! My legs… it’s impossible!” Elaine wailed, her voice cracking with disbelief.
She finally came to two days later, and the final diagnosis was in.
She had nerve damage in her lumbar spine, and her right leg was shattered. She’d survived, but standing might be impossible from now on. She was paralyzed, and whether she’d ever walk again would depend on how well she responded to
treatment.
If things didn’t improve, she might be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, forget about ever dancing again.

Sharon had to listen to Elaine’s screaming from outside the hospital room every single day. The hospital staff had already warned her several times.
If Elaine kept causing a scene like this, they were going to force them to leave the hospital.
“Have you had enough yet? If you keep acting like this, they’re going to kick us out!” Sharon snapped.

Elaine fixed her with a desperate stare. “Sharon, call him! Make him come see me! Now that I’m like this, how could he not come?”
Sharon gritted her teeth. “Do you really think Mr. Goodman is going to come see you?”
“What do you mean?” Elaine asked.
