Chapter 188 Your Promise Means Nothing
Chapter 188 Your Promise Means Nothing
Chiara was genuinely pissed off by how honest Titus was. She could only glare at him, her anger barely contained.
“Have you even thought about the consequences of what you’re doing?” Chiara demanded.
Titus raised an eyebrow. “What consequences?”
Chiara’s voice was sharp and stern as she said, “What if one day you can’t make it? Do you realize how upset Ryan might be? You’re making him rely on you, making him need you. Can you promise you’ll be there for him every single day?”
Titus’s eyes were dark as he looked at her serious face. He spoke in a low voice, “I can promise.”
Chiara’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. She didn’t bother to hide her scorn.
“You promise? Mr. Goodman, your promises are worthless to me,” she shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Titus’s gaze grew even darker, his Adam’s apple bobbing, but he didn’t argue back or try to defend himself.
“Ryan is the only kid I’ll ever have, Chiara. You can’t keep me away from my son,” Titus said, his voice low and unwavering.
Chiara’s gaze turned icy. “Who knows what the future will bring?”
Back then, she thought she could handle anything life threw at her.
But reality always had other plans.
“I can draw up a will right now. All of the Goodman family’s assets will go to Ryan in the future, and you’ll be the one to hold onto my will. It’ll be valid for life and can never be changed,” Titus said, his voice steady.
Chiara was stunned for a moment, then her brows furrowed in annoyance. She couldn’t help but sneer, “Are you crazy? Who the hell wants your will anyway?”
Titus stayed calm. “Don’t get so mad. I just want you to see I mean it.”
Chiara looked at him coolly. “So you’re really set on this, huh?”
Titus just stared back at her, his expression unwavering. It was obvious he wasn’t about to change his mind.
Chiara dropped her arms and took a deep breath. “Even if you don’t go this far, you’re still his dad. He’ll figure it out when he’ s older. You don’t have to do all this.”
Titus shook his head. “I still stand by what I said.”
Seeing that he was completely unmoved, Chiara frowned, decided it wasn’t worth arguing with him anymore, and turned to walk away.
Titus arched his brow as he watched her angry retreat.
Since Chiara couldn’t get through to him, she pretty much stopped talking to him.
Titus didn’t go out of his way to start a conversation either.
Their dynamic was a little weird, but Ana got used to their vibe after a few days and stopped paying it any mind.
‘Divorced couples don’t exactly have a lot to say to each other, anyway; Ana thought.
On the seventh day, Titus came by early to pick up Chiara and Ryan, taking them to the hospital to get Ryan’s stitches out. When Yves saw them get out of the car, he greeted them with a nod. “Titus, Chiara, everything’s set up.”
Chiara didn’t bother correcting him. She just said, “Thanks. I appreciate it.”
“Don’t mention it. Let’s head in,” Yves replied.
“Okay,” Chiara said.
Yves shot Titus a worried look. “Titus, you gonna go through with this? You sure? It’s not too late to back out, you know.”
Titus glared at him coldly. “Don’t even think about spilling this. If you say a word, you’re done.”
Yves felt helpless but had no choice but to listen. He glanced at Chiara up ahead and grabbed Titus’s arm.
“Just so we’re clear, if this blows up, I’m not taking the blame,” Yves muttered.
Titus shook off his hand and kept walking. Yves watched Chiara and Titus walking side by side. He rubbed his head, looking exasperated.
Titus stuck with Ryan through the whole chec Successfully unlocked! blood test, Ryan started sniffling and letting
out a few quiet sobs, but Titus comforted him, as dried up.
“Just wait a bit. The test results will be out in an hour,” the nurse said.

Chiara nodded. “Okay, thanks.”
Then, Chiara turned to glance at Titus and Ryan sitting together on the chairs.
She had no clue where Titus had gotten a Rubik’s Cube. He was putting on a little show for Ryan with it.
Of course, Yves was the one who brought it. “Ryan, when you get a bit older, you’ll be playing with this Rubik’s Cube, too.
Your dad was a legend at it when he was a kid. I never managed to beat him. But I know you’ll leave him in the dust one day. Go for it. I’ve got high hopes for you!”
Titus didn’t get mad at all. He just said coolly, “Of course, my boy’s gonna outshine me.”
Yves rolled his eyes. “Can you chill with the bragging?”
Chiara quietly watched them for a moment. Then, she moved over to a chair on the other side, sat down, and glanced at her phone.
Wayne texted her about ten minutes ago, asking her out to dinner.
After hesitating for a bit, Chiara sent back a gentle refusal.
Wayne just replied casually. [Maybe next time.]
Chiara could read Wayne’s feelings, but since he’d never actually confessed or made things clear, she couldn’t flat-out
reject him. All she could do was keep things subtle and hope he’d pick up on her signals.
The bandage on Ryan’s head was off, and his wound was healing up great. They were told to keep using scar cream. If they had stuck with it, Ryan probably wouldn’t have any scars at all.
Time ticked by, and finally, the nurse came out with all the test results.
“Mr. Goodman, Dr. Shaw, the test results are ready,” the nurse said.
Chiara put her phone down and immediately stood up. Her eyes were fixed on the nurse. Yves did the same.
“So, everything looks normal, right?” Chiara asked, her voice a little tense.
The nurse shook her head and handed him the report. “There are some irregularities in bloodwork.”
Chiara instantly tensed up. “What do you mean? What’s wrong with Ryan’s bloodwork?”
Yves took the report and frowned. “Let me see the other results.”
“Okay,” the nurse replied.
Chiara kept her eyes fixed on Yves, worry etched on her face.
After flipping through the papers, Yves asked, “Is this the first round of tests?”
“No, this is the second time we’ve run them,” the nurse replied.
