Chiara glanced up at them. “Why do you have her file?”

Heather set Ryan down. “Ana.”

Ana came over and picked Ryan up, knowing they had something to discuss, so she took Ryan outside to play.

Paul finally spoke up. “Ms. Lynch, how much do you know about Robyn?”

“She’s a hard worker,” Chiara replied.

Paul went on, “What do you know about her family background?”

“Her background? What are you talking about? Aren’t her parents just regular folks, farmers?” Chiara asked.

Heather took the file from Chiara as she spoke.

The file said Robyn was an orphan, grew up in an orphanage, and got into college all by herself.

“She’s an orphan?” Chiara asked, a bit surprised.

Paul nodded. “That’s right, she’s an orphan. But so far, there’s no information about her parents, and the orphanage didn’t leave any records either.”

“But she told me her parents were living back in her hometown…” Heather fidgeted with her fingers, shooting Titus a puzzled look.

“Why would she lie to me?” Heather murmured.

Titus’s gaze was dark and unreadable as he said, “Kason’s an orphan too.”

Chiara raised an eyebrow at him. “You mean they might’ve known each other way back?”

Paul chimed in, “But Kason grew up in an orphanage overseas, and Robyn was raised in one here. Normally, there shouldn’t

be any link between them, but we can’t completely rule out the chance they met a long time ago.”

Heather felt a heaviness in her chest. ‘This is getting way more complicated than I imagined,’ she thought.

“I didn’t meet her until college. Before that, I’d never even seen her…” Heather said, her voice trailing off, feeling a bit lost. Chiara frowned. “So what are you all getting at?”

Chiara knew Titus must be onto something; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had Robyn investigated right away.

And now it turns out both of them are orphans.

Chiara’s mind spun. “Orphans?”

‘What’s with both of them being orphans?’ Chiara wondered.

‘And why is it Lynch Group, of all places?’ she thought.

Chiara suddenly looked up at Titus. “Are you saying they’ve been after us from the very beginning? Why? What exactly are you suspecting?”

Titus’s gaze was deep and unreadable as he looked at her. “I’m still looking into it.”

“Just say it. What are you thinking? What are you suspicious of?” Chiara, demanded.

After a moment, Titus finally spoke up, “I’m investigating your parents.”

Both sisters stared at him, not saying a word.

“What do you mean?” Chiara shot back, her voice tight.

Titus paused for a few seconds, then stepped forward and took her wrist. “I’m just ruling things out, checking into it. Doesn’t mean there’s any real connection.”

Chiara’s brow furrowed as she glanced at Heather, then spoke up right away.

“This has nothing to do with my father,” Chiara insisted.

Titus gave her wrist a gentle squeeze in response.

Heather stayed quiet, setting the file down and looking at Titus.

“Why did you suddenly decide to look into our parents? Is there something else you’re not telling us?” Heather asked, her voice steady but full of suspicion.

Chiara turned to Titús as well, her eyes narrowi.

Titus glanced at both sisters before speaking in a low, serious voice. “Kason now holds at least thirty percent of Lynch

Group’s shares.”

“What? How is that even possible?” Chiara was floored. She whipped around to look at Heather.

“Heather, exactly how many shares did you give him?” Chiara pressed, her voice tight with worry.

Heather’s expression shifted suddenly. She went ghostly pale, her eyes suddenly vacant.

“I only gave him seven percent…” Heather said.

‘How did he get the rest of those shares?’ Heather wondered.

“I met with them myself. Kason threatened and bribed them,” Heather said, her voice heavy.

Heather closed her eyes for a moment, then collapsed onto the couch, fists clenched tight, her emotions written all over her face.

“I really did let a tiger into our house…” Heather muttered, regret thick in her voice.

Chiara’s brow furrowed. “So what’s he really after?”

Titus’s gaze darkened as he looked at Heather. “He wants Lynch Group.”

Anger flashed across Chiara’s face. “Why does he think he can just take it?”

Titus glanced at her and said in a low voice, “Yeah, why does he think he can?”

Chiara’s eyes flashed as she remembered Titus having someone dig into her parents. For a moment, her throat tightened, making it hard to breathe.

Kason went after Lynch Group before the divorce, and he knew all about the ties between our families. ‘Why did he have to target us? What was his real motive?’ Chiara wondered.

Chiara turned to look at Heather, but Heather didn’t meet her eyes. She just stared down at the floor, lost in her own thoughts.

Chiara tried to go over and say something, but Titus grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

“Give her some space,” Titus said softly.

‘Give her space? For what?’ Chiara wondered, frustration rising inside her.

Chiara watched Heather sit there in silence, head bowed, and in the end, Titus pulled her into the next room.

Seeing her so down, Titus said, “I’m here for you, you know. What’s got you so worried?”

Chiara gave him a look. “We’re divorced. Lynch Group isn’t your concern anymore

“Why wouldn’t it?” Titus replied.

“Why would it?” Chiara shot back.

“Isn’t Lynch Group meant for my son in the future?” Titus said, his voice steady.

Chiara was at a loss for words.

She couldn’t think of a response, even though that was exactly what they’d been planning from the start.

“My son’s still just a kid, so for now, it’s only right that I, as his dad, look after things for him,” Titus said, his tone calm and matter-of-fact.

Chiara shot him a look, then walked over and sat down on the couch. “Heather’s not herself right now.”

Titus glanced at her but didn’t say anything. Heather had been running the company for years; she knew all the ins and outs better than anyone.

‘Does Goodman Group really not have any skeletons in the closet?’ Titus wondered.

‘Of course they do. How could they not?’ he thought.

‘Even if there’s nothing now, there must’ve been something in the past, Titus mused.

Business is a battlefield, and that’s not just talk.

“Got any herbal medicine left today?” Titus suddenly switched topics.

Chiara blinked at the sudden change. “If you want some, I can whip it up for you.”
