Chapter 209 Gotta Get To The Bottom
Chapter 209 Gotta Get To The Bottom
Heather’s gaze shifted slightly, and she slowly closed her eyes.
When she came last night, she wasn’t sure if the problem was in the accounts.
But it was Robyn’s betrayal that made her start connecting the dots.
She was just taking a gamble. If she couldn’t find anything, then it had nothing to do with the accounts.
At worst, she’d just be wasting a bit of time.
She didn’t want anyone else involved, honestly because she was scared of what she might uncover.
But in reality, if there was a real issue, it wouldn’t be hiding in the finance department anyway.
After working through the night, Heather confirmed there was definitely something off with the company’s accounts.
‘The year 2000… that’s where it all started,’ Heather thought to herself.
If she wanted to get to the bottom of things, she had to figure out exactly what happened at the company in 2000.
‘And what did Kason and Robyn have to do with all of it, anyway?’ Heather couldn’t help but wonder.
Chiara had never run the company, so it made sense she couldn’t connect the dots.
But Heather and Titus definitely had their suspicions.
That was why Titus had asked her with absolute certainty which year’s accounts were missing.
Their thoughts and suspicions were running in the same direction, on the same wavelength.
This was just how people in charge, those at the top, thought.
Titus shot her a long, meaningful look before hauling her up to her feet.
He glanced at his secretary, and with sharp instincts, she quickly stepped forward to steady Heather.
After sitting all night, Heather’s legs were dead asleep when she finally got up.
It took a good while before any feeling came back to them.
Chiara glanced around at the mess of papers and files scattered all over the room and let out a sigh.
“Thanks for helping sort this out again,” she said.
The deputy director and the male secretary nodded. “Don’t mention it, Ms. Lynch, It’s just part of our job. As long as Heather’s alright, that’s what matters most.”
After all, Heather was the one who signed their paychecks.
Chiara gave a small nod. “Thanks for your hard work.”
Heather headed back to her office, and Chiara followed her into the lounge. She passed the bag to Heather through the bathroom door.
Chiara said, “I brought you some clothes from home.”
Heather reached out with her damp arm to take the bag.
Chiara sat quietly on the edge of the bed, waiting for Heather to finish her shower and come out.
When Heather finally came out, her eyes looked even redder. Maybe it was just the shower, or maybe something else.
She gave Chiara a small smile. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Chiara watched her for a long moment before finally asking, “Heather, is there something you’re suspicious about?”
Heather paused, towel in hand, and just shook her head without saying a word.
Chiara sighed. She wasn’t stupid. She’d seen the way Heather and Titus exchanged glances just now.
“You don’t have to hide things from me. I’m a mother now, Heather. Stop treating me like I’m some fragile flower in a greenhouse. Whatever it is, I can face it with you,” Chiara said.
Heather set the towel down, quietly regarding her for a long moment before finally speaking.
“I still need to take care of some work stuff at the office. Why don’t you go home for now…” Heather said.
Chiara frowned, clearly wanting to say more.
Successfully unlocked!
“Take a good look around Mom and Dad’s room u luuy. Je li you can find anything unusual they might’ve left behind,” Heather added.

Chapter 209 Gotta Get To The Bottom
Whatever Chiara wanted to say got stuck in her throat.
She fidgeted with her fingers, her voice uncertain. “Heather, do you think the problem might be with Mom and Dad?” Heather shook her head, her voice rough.
She said, “Of course I hope that’s not it, but if it is, we’re in a really bad spot. He went to all that trouble, even forced other shareholders to sell out.
“There’s no way all this is just about some tax evasion mess. We’ve got to know exactly where the problem is, or we’ll be caught off guard.”
Robyn submitted all the evidence directly to the tax bureau.
So the tax bureau never sent anyone down to investigate.
Heather had no choice but to go through all the company’s accumulated account books herself, one by one.
The taxes involved were only from the past few years.
So even if someone from above came to investigate, they’d only check the recent records.
Even if they did spot checks every year, it was just a sample. Nobody else would pull an all-nighter to comb through every single record the way she did.
She knew for a fact that anything still sitting in the finance department was clean.
She was just hunting for the problem.
And she’d found it. The missing records from 2000 were the smoking gun.
Once she had a lead, she could start following the trail and see where it led.
Chiara fell silent for a long time before finally nodding. “Alright.”
On the way back, Chiara stayed quiet, her mind spinning. She just couldn’t accept the idea that their parents could be the ones at fault.
After a long silence, Chiara finally broke it. “What kind of people do you think my parents really are?”
Titus shot her a sideways glance and answered in a low voice, “From everything I’ve seen, your folks are the kind of businesspeople who actually have a conscience.”
He wasn’t just trying to make her feel better. That’s really what he’d seen and heard.
The Lynch couple were a real power couple in the business world, but no matter how big things got, they always had their own line they wouldn’t cross.
The Lynch Group’s success back in the day was the real deal. Even Titus couldn’t deny it.
Chiara looked at him, confusion written all over her face.
“But why does Heather suspect Mom and Dad are involved? And why did you have them investigated?” Chiara asked. Chiara didn’t really understand all the business maneuvering, but she just couldn’t believe her parents could ever do anything wrong.
Titus pressed his lips together, staying silent for a long moment before finally speaking in a low voice.
“It’s not that I don’t trust your parents,” Titus said, “but as a businessman, I have to go with my gut. And as for why Heather’ s suspicious, she’s been running the company for years. If anyone knows what’s really going on, it’s her.”
Chiara shook her head, closed her eyes, and whispered, “I still just can’t make sense of it…”
