Chapter 210 The Storage Card
Chapter 210 The Storage Card
After Chiara got home, she headed straight for her parents’ room. She turned the whole place upside down, but still found nothing.
She wiped the sweat from her forehead, and Ana poured her a glass of juice and handed it over. “Chiara, what are you looking for? Why don’t we all give you a hand?” Ana asked.
Chiara took the juice, took a few sips, then shook her head.
“I don’t even know what I’m looking for…” she said.
“What do you mean?” Ana asked.
Chiara just shook her head again. After a brief rest, she got up and headed to her parents’ study.
She searched the study for quite a while, but still didn’t find anything suspicious.
She sat down in the chair, staring at the family photo on the desk, lost in thought once more.
“Mom, Dad, Heather was wrong, wasn’t she? There’s really nothing here…” Chiara murmured.
Chiara picked up the photo frame and ran her fingers over the faces in the photo.
After touching it a few times, she realized something felt odd about the frame.
The surface of the photo felt uneven. She brought it closer, kept feeling it, and finally was sure there was something hidden underneath.
Her heart skipped a beat. She flipped the frame over and opened it up.
Sure enough, a small black card fell out, about the size of a memory card.
Chiara picked it up, examined it closely, then turned on her computer right away.
She found a card reader, inserted the card, and connected it to the USB port.
Sure enough, a small program popped up on the screen, but it required a password to access.
She sat there staring at the screen for ages before finally starting to try passwords.
But after trying several combinations, none of them worked.
She was so nervous that she started to sweat.
She had no clue what could possibly be on that card, or why anyone would hide it behind a photo frame.
‘Could it really have been Mom and Dad who put it there?’ Chiara thought to herself.
Chiara was getting anxious just as Heather came back.
“So, did you find anything?” Heather asked.
Chiara looked up at her, lips slowly tightening, but she didn’t say a word.
Heather caught the troubled look on Chiara’s face and walked over. The moment her eyes landed on the screen, her gaze sharpened.
She leaned in closer, her voice low. “Did you try it?”
Chiara nodded. “Yeah, I tried. Grandma and Grandpa’s birthdays, Mom and Dad’s birthdays, even our own birthdays. None of them worked.”
Heather was silent for a while, then removed the card from the reader and stared at the tiny black card.
“Looks like we need to find a professional to crack this password,” she said.
But neither of them knew what was actually on the card, so figuring out who to ask was the problem.
Heather held the card, glanced at Chiara, and said, “Call Titus.”
Chiara nodded. Goodman Group definitely had their own tech wizards. Getting a random hacker off the street wasn’t exactly reassuring. What if there was something really important hidden inside?
When Titus got the call, he told them to stay put; he’d come over with his own people.
The two sisters sat on the couch, staring at the card on the coffee table. Neither said a word; the room was thick with
silence.
Chiara felt completely at a loss while searching. She wasn’t even sure if she wanted to find anything at all.
But one thing was clear. This card was definitely trouble.

‘Who hides something behind a family photo and locks it with a password unless it’s something big? Chiara looked up at Heather.
“Heather, is this card what you’ve been searching for?” Chiara asked.
Heather shook her head. “Honestly, I have no idea.”
Chiara bit her lip and murmured, “I trust Mom and Dad.”
Heather’s gaze lingered on her face.
Chiara met her gaze, her voice steady. “Whatever’s on this card, I trust Mom and Dad. I know they’d never do anything shady or something they’d be ashamed of. That’s just not who they are.”
Heather’s lips curved into a faint smile at that.
“Me too. I trust them,” she replied.
About an hour later, Titus showed up with a man in tow.
Chiara handed the card over to him.
Titus stared at the card for a long moment before finally taking it and passing it to the man beside him.
“Think you can crack it?” Titus asked.
The man pushed up his glasses, took the card, and gave it a careful look before nodding.
“Mr. Goodman, this card’s pretty ancient. It should be easy to crack. I’ll give it a try,” the man said.
Titus nodded.
The man sat down on the couch, opened his laptop, and got to work.
The sisters didn’t say a word, just sat there in silence, waiting for the results.
But Titus noticed how tightly Chiara was gripping her hands. He glanced at her, then reached out and took her hand in his.
Chiara shot him a look and tried to pull her hand back, but he wouldn’t let go. She didn’t bother arguing with him about it.
Her eyes were glued to the man Titus had brought along.
Her attention was completely focused on the man and the laptop balanced on his lap.
Heather slumped into the couch and shut her eyes, feeling the burn in her tired eyes.
After staying up all night and grinding through a full day of work, her eyes felt scratchy and raw.
But as the minutes ticked by, the guy’s cool composure started to slip.
His brow furrowed deeper, his hands moved faster and faster over the keys, and he was actually starting to sweat.
Titus watched him in silence, not saying a word, but kept glancing at the card/reader.
‘Seriously, how could an old memory card take this long to crack?’ Titus thought.
The guy Titus brought was literally one of the top three computer whizzes in the country, and he ran network security for Goodman Group.
Goodman Group’s network security firewall had never been breached.
But this tiny memory card was proving to be a real challenge. Even after all this time, he still hadn’t managed to crack it.
“Is it really that hard?” Titus asked.
The man paused, looked up, and wiped the sweat from his forehead..
The man said, “Mr. Goodman, I’ve never seen a firewall like this before. It’s not just one layer. It’s double-encrypted. I’m worried there might be a self-destruct system built in.
“If I try to brute force it, I could end up destroying whatever’s inside. So I’ll need a bit more time.”
Titus nodded, then turned to Chiara and said quietly, “Ryan’s been asking for you since I got here. Why don’t you go spend
some time with him?”
At the mention of Ryan, Chiara finally turned to Titus, and Heather slowly opened her eyes.
“Hey, go downstairs and keep Ryan company. I’ll wait here,” Heather said.
Chiara glanced at both of them, then nodded and got up to leave the study.
Titus glanced at Heather but kept quiet. Heather’s gaze was distant, clearly lost in her own thoughts.
After Chiara finally got Ryan to sleep, she came back upstairs carrying a few glasses of water. It looked like things still weren’t finished yet.

“Here, have some water,” Chiara said.
The man nodded at her. “Thank you, Mrs. Goodman…”
After a drink, the guy sighed, clearly frustrated. “Mr. Goodman, no way I can crack this solo. Even if I could, it’d take ages. We should take this back to the compány, get the whole team on it. It’ll go way faster that way.”
Heather finally looked up, then glanced at Titus.
Chiara glanced at Titus as well.
Titus looked at Heather. “What’s your call?”
Heather paused for a moment, then nodded.
“But I want everything on that card kept totally under wraps. No leaks, not a word gets out,” Heather said.
Titus nodded, got to his feet, and gave his suit jacket a quick tug. “Trust me, it’ll stay between us.”
