Chapter 216 Your Father Caused Their Death

Chapter 216 Your Father Caused Their Death

Heather slowly opened her eyes when she heard Robyn’s voice, her eyes red from crying.

Robyn stepped forward to help her up, but when she saw the marks on Heather’s body, she quickly looked away.

Just as she was about to head to the bathroom to grab a bathrobe or towel…

“What do you like about him?” Heather’s hoarse voice cut through the silence.

Robyn froze at the question, her steps faltering.

She slowly turned around, her eyes stinging as she took in Heather’s disheveled state.

“I…” Robyn hesitated, her voice trailing off.

Heather closed her eyes, pushing down all the emotions in her gaze.

“Could you grab me something to cover up?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Robyn looked at her for a few seconds, then went to the bathroom and draped a bathrobe over Heather’s shoulders. “Let me get it for you.”

“Do you hate me too, just like he does?” Heather asked, her voice trembling.

Robyn fell silent again, and after a long pause, she finally spoke, “I did resent you at first.”

Heather just looked at her in silence.

“Back in college, I got close to you on purpose, tried all sorts of ways to become your friend. Honestly, I was shocked you’d even want to hang out with someone like me, someone with no family or connections. You always took care of me, and after we graduated, you got me a job at Lynch Group. You really believed in me… I knew all of that,” Robyn said softly.

Heather understood what she meant. It seemed like Robyn’s resentment had faded over the years.

“I thought if I stuck close to you, I’d eventually dig up something on you. But I never did. I figured maybe you didn’t know anything about it either. I kept trying to catch you slipping, looking for some mistake, but you’re always so responsible to your staff and the community. There was nothing I could pin on you…” Robyn continued.

Heather forced a smile, her voice hoarse. “But you still chose him. Was it out of resentment, or do you really have feelings for him?”

Robyn clenched her fists and lowered her head. “My father died because of your parents. If they hadn’t used inferior steel back then, he never would have died!”

Heather fell silent, but Robyn wouldn’t let it go.

“Do you even know how Kason’s dad died?” Robyn pressed, her voice trembling.

Heather finally looked up at her.

“It was your father who killed him!” Robyn spat out, her voice shaking with anger.

Heather stiffened. “What do you mean? Didn’t he die in a car accident while trying to escape?”

“No!” Robyn shot back, her voice trembling as she locked eyes with Heather.

“Do you know what day he died?” Robyn pressed, her eyes burning with anger.

Heather clutched the bathrobe tighter, her voice hoarse. “What day?”

“It was Kason’s birthday! But instead, it became the day his father died!” Robyn spat out, her voice trembling with emotion.

Heather’s heart sank, and her grip on the bathrobe loosened.

“Do you even know how he got into that car accident? Heather, let me tell you exactly what happened!” Robyn said, her voice shaking.

Robyn stepped forward and sat down on the edge of the bed, her eyes red as she stared at Heather.

“That day, after Mr. Bradford finished celebrating Kason’s birthday, Mrs. Bradford talked him into turning himself in. She promised she’d wait for him with Kason. He had no idea the steel was faulty. He never meant for any of it to happen. The judge would’ve gone easy on him. He agreed because of his wife and Kason. He wasn’t running away that day, he was going to surrender himself!” Robyn said, her voice trembling with emotion.

“It was your father’s fault!” Robyn shouted, her Successfully unlocked!

“He found out what Mr. Bradford was planning and the to stop. Your uad was tailing him relentlessly, refusing to let him turn himself in. That’s what led to the accident. It wasn’t because he was trying to run away, like you said!”

Heather’s face went ghostly pale, and her hands, still clutching the bathrobe, fell limply to her sides.

Robyn saw Heather’s expression, but she steeled herself and kept talking.

“But your dad just watched the accident happen. He didn’t even call emergency services! If he’d called for help, maybe Mr. Bradford wouldn’t have died!”

Robyn gripped Heather’s shoulders, feeling how stiff she was as tears streamed down Heather’s face.

“Your dad was the reason Mr. Bradford died, and he was also the reason his wife died!” Robyn said, her voice shaking with anger.

Heather snapped her head up, clearly confused by what Robyn had just said.

“W-What do you mean, ‘also’?” Heather stammered, her voice trembling.

Robyn bit down hard, staring straight at Heather. “After Mrs. Bradford found out what happened to her husband, she just couldn’t handle it. So, she committed suicide. Kason ended up alone, just like me. an orphan!”

Heather’s eyes widened in shock. “What are you talking about?”

“You don’t believe me, do you? That’s fine. I’ve got proof. You’ll see for yourself!” Robyn pulled out her phone and brought up a surveillance video from years ago. Heather stared at the screen, her eyes locked on the video as it played.

In the footage, a black sedan crashed into a utility pole by the side of the road.

Right after, another car pulled up. Heather recognized that car instantly, and her heart shot into her throat. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, but she didn’t even notice.

She watched as her father got out of the Jeep. He just stood there on the side of the road, dazed, for a long time before finally snapping out of it and going over to check on the accident.

He tried to open the car door, but it was jammed shut.

He just stood there, staring at the person inside for what felt like an eternity. Then, with cold determination, he turned on his heel, got back in his car, and sped off without a second glance.

Heather snatched the phone from Robyn, her eyes locked on the screen as she replayed the video again and again, unable to tear her gaze away, disbelief written all over her face.

Robyn couldn’t bear to look at Heather’s face anymore. She’d always said that after all these years together, her hatred had faded.

She wasn’t made of stone. She had feelings too.

Besides, Heather had always looked out for her, treated her so well.

If it weren’t for Heather, someone with nothing like her never would’ve made it in Halinston.

Everything she had came from Heather, but it was Heather’s father who took her own father’s life.

“Heather, you really don’t have any right to blame Kason. From the very start, he never tried to use you or hurt you. If he wanted to, he had tons of chances over the past two years, but he never did…”

Robyn’s feelings were all over the place. She honestly had no clue what was going on in Kason’s head anymore.

She’d even wondered if maybe they’d actually caught feelings for each other after all those nights together.

But Kason never gave up on his schemes, not even now…
