When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 221

Chapter 2211 Have Feelings For You

Chapter 221 | Have Feelings For You

Even when her parents passed away, Chiara had never been as miserable as she was that day.

Just half a month after her parents’ death, the Lynch Group started facing one crisis after another. Chiara and Heather had no choice but to go to all the people they used to be close with, all the ones they’d worked with before, and beg them to help the Lynch Group.

But not a single one of them was willing to help.

Those people were like predators watching from a distance, silently waiting to see them struggle, fall, and finally get crushed.

Maybe then they could swoop in and grab a share of the spoils.

And to make things worse, even the heavens seemed to be against her. The rain was relentless, pouring down in heavy sheets.

Just when Chiara felt completely cornered, with no one left to turn to, she caught sight of Titus’s car slowly passing by right in front of her.

The downpour was intense, and his car crawled along the street. She recognized it immediately.

After all, she’d been into him for so long. There was no way she could ever mistake his car.

She didn’t even know where the sudden burst of courage came from, but she jumped into her own car and tailed him without a second thought.

She secretly tailed him all the way until he pulled into the hotel, never letting him out of her sight.

Chiara snapped back to reality, her gaze fixed on Titus. “You knew I was following you from the very start?”

Titus smirked. “With driving skills that bad, Paul could’ve left you in the dust if he’d just sped up a little.”

Her suspicions were spot on. He really had known she was secretly following him.

“But you… why?” Chiara asked, her voice trembling.

Titus’s dark eyes locked onto her confused face. “I already told you. I couldn’t just ignore you.”

Chiara just stared at him, dazed.

“I couldn’t help watching you get knocked down in the pouring rain and still not giving up. So I let you follow me and let you into the top floor of the hotel. All of it was with my permission,” Titus said.

Chiara’s breath hitched, and she froze up.

She never would’ve guessed that Titus had already seen her getting rejected over and over.

And everything that followed happened only because he chose to let it.

Noticing the confused look on her face, Titus instantly knew she’d gotten the wrong idea.

“When your parents passed away, I was in Harborton. The branch office had just opened, so I spent most of my time there. But my grandma asked me to come back and help out the Lynch Group, so that day, I was actually coming straight from the airport,” Titus explained.

Chiara’s eyelids trembled. ‘So it wasn’t some plan or scheme? It was just a coincidence?’

Titus caught on to what she was thinking. “Yeah, just a coincidence. I was planning to crash for the night before heading to the Lynch Group, but you ended up bumping into me first.”

Chiara hesitated, her lips parted as she asked uncertainly, “So what you’re saying is, even if I hadn’t lost my mind and followed you into the hotel that night, you still would’ve helped the Lynch Group?”

Titus nodded. “Yeah. My grandma and your grandparents have known each other for a long time. Since my grandma put in a word for you, there’s no way I’d just sit back and watch.”

Chiara closed her eyes, her heart a mess of emotions.

“Are you regretting it now?” Titus asked, a hint of teasing in his voice.

Chiara couldn’t even tell if she regretted it or not.

Back then, most of her courage came from the dire straits she was in, and part of it was because her feelings for him had never been stronger.

She just wanted to take a leap of faith, no matter the cost.

Titus pulled her into his arms, his voice low and husky in her ear. “Honestly, I’m really glad you followed me that night.”

Chiara kept her eyes closed, not saying a word. She honestly had no idea what to say.

“But Chiara, if you hadn’t followed me to the hotel that night, even if I helped out the Lynch Group once or twice just because my grandma asked, it wouldn’t have changed anything,” Titus said.

Chiara understood exactly what he meant. The only reason he kept supporting the Lynch Group from behind the scenes was because she’d married him.

Since she was his wife now, it was his responsibility to make sure the Lynch Group stayed afloat.

“But honestly, I really didn’t expect you to…” Titus trailed off, with a little laugh in his voice.

Chiara already knew what he was getting at, and her temples started to throb.

“Shut up! Don’t you dare say it!” she snapped.

She knew exactly what she’d done that night. No matter how much she wanted to forget, it was etched deeply into her mind.

Titus raised an eyebrow, a soft chuckle escaping him.

“Don’t be mad, just listen to me,” he said.

“I don’t want to hear it. It’s late, you should go,” Chiara said, basically showing him the door.

“Nope, I’m not letting this go. You have to hear me out,” Titus said stubbornly.

Chiara shot him an annoyed look. “Seriously, what’s wrong with you? I said I don’t want to hear it, and you’re still making me listen?”

“Fine, just call me crazy if you want,” Titus replied, totally unfazed.

Chiara just stared at him, lost for words.

“Honestly, I let you follow me that night because I wanted to see you, to hear how you’d try to talk me into helping the Lynch Group. But you really surprised me…” Titus said, a little amused.

Chiara couldn’t take it anymore. Flustered and pissed off, she shoved him away and glared at him furiously.

“Titus, can you just shut up already?” she snapped.

Titus raised an eyebrow, but didn’t try to get any closer. He just shoved his hands in his pockets and drawled, “Just one last thing.”

Chiara’s brows knitted together even tighter, and she shot him another glare.

“I told you to shut up! I don’t want to hear it!”

“I’m giving you the answer to that question now,” Titus said.

Chiara stared at him, totally lost. She had no idea what he was talking about.

‘What question? What answer?’ she wondered, confused.

‘Did I even ask him anything that night?’

‘Even if he was just looking for a trophy wife, why would he pick me?’ Chiara thought, the memory suddenly hitting her. Her face darkened as it all came rushing back. Without another word, she turned on her heel and headed for the door.

“I’m going to bed. Suit yourself,” she said, her voice icy.

Titus didn’t try to stop her. He just watched her leave and called out, his voice low.

“There have been plenty of women sent my way, but you’re the only one I’ve ever felt anything for. So when you asked me to marry you, I agreed almost without thinking. I just didn’t want you to realize it, so I asked you that question,” he said.

Chiara paused, the memory of his teasing tone washing over her. The shame and humiliation from that moment still lingered.

“But you hurt my self-respect,” she said, her voice trembling.

She turned to face him, pressing her lips together. “I used up all the courage I had in my life. I’d already swallowed my pride, and you just had to crush it even more.”

Titus’s face darkened, his eyes locked on her, unblinking.

“I’m sorry. Back then, I…” he started, his voice low.

But Chiara averted her gaze. “It’s over now. I don’t want to talk about it anymore, and I hope you won’t bring it up again.”

With that, she turned and started to walk away.

“If any other woman had tried to offer herself to me that night, it wouldn’t have gotten anywhere,” Titus said, his voice low

and serious.

Chiara didn’t want to dwell on what he meant. She just opened the study door and walked out without looking back.

Titus watched the door slowly close, then let his gaze fall on the family portrait.

After leaving the study, Chiara stopped in the hallway for a few seconds, took a deep breath, and finally went into her room.

She refused to let his words mess with her head.

What Chiara didn’t know was that after she left, Titus immediately made a call.

“Look into the car accident that happened to my in-laws back then,” Titus said, his voice cold and serious.

On the other end, Paul was so shocked he practically shot up in bed.

“Mr. Goodman, are you saying you think what happened to Mr. and Mrs. Lynch wasn’t just an accident?” Paul blurted out, still in shock.

Titus’s gaze was deep and unreadable as he looked at the family photo.

“Just investigate thoroughly. Get to the bottom of it,” he said, his voice cold.

Paul paused for a few seconds, then replied solemnly, “Yes, Mr. Goodman
