Chapter 274
Chapter 274
Titus’s sudden action made everyone freeze in shock. “W-What’s happening?” someone blurted out, their voice shaky. Heather’s expression turned grave as she stared at him.
His face clouded with worry, Titus squatted in front of Chiara and gently took her hand. “Listen to me. I swear I’ll bring Ryan back to you safe and sound, but from now on, block out everything you hear and see,” Titus said.
Chiara looked at him in confusion. “Why…”
Titus’s eyes were dark and unreadable as he pressed a gentle kiss to the back of her hand. “Just this once. Please, trust me one last time,” he whispered.
Chiara stared into his dark, bottomless eyes, her chest tightening unexpectedly. Her hand moved on its own, reaching for his. But Titus cut her off, his voice low and resolute.
“Stay home and wait for me,” he said. Then he grabbed her phone from the coffee table and strode out without looking back.
“Titus, where are you going?” Adele snapped out of her daze and jumped up from the couch. But it was already too late. Titus had vanished from sight.
Seeing Titus leave with the phone, the police officers grabbed their gear and hurried after him. Wherever the phone went. they had to be close by, preferably within six feet.
Adele clung to Charlie’s hand, her voice shaky with worry. “Where did Titus go? What’s he up to?”
Charlie shook his head, just as anxious, but he spoke softly, trying to calm her. “Don’t worry. We have to trust him.” Charlie said.
But Adele just shook her head, pressing a hand to her chest. “Why do I feel so nervous?”
Heather turned to Chiara, gripping her hand even tighter. “Are you alright?” Heather asked quietly, concern in her voice.
Chiara just stood there, staring at the front door in a daze, her mind elsewhere. Why did he take my phone?’ Chiara thought, confusion and worry swirling inside her.
It was obvious to everyone; Titus just didn’t want her getting involved. He took her phone because it was too dangerous for her to be part of it.
“I’m Ryan’s mom too…” Chiara whispered.
Heather frowned and said quietly, “But maybe this time we should trust him. Ryan is his son, too, and staying home will help him focus. If Elaine really is involved, Ryan might not be the only one she’s after.”
If Elaine truly was behind it, Chiara was likely the one she hated most, Titus seemed to have realized that as well, or he would not have taken the phone and told her to stay home and wait for news.
“But I…” Chiara protested, her voice shaky.
“Chiara!” For once, Heather sounded really serious.
Chiara just stared at her, lost and confused. Heather’s heart twisted seeing her like this, and she gripped Chiara’s hand tight.
“Chiara, just listen, okay?” Heather said softly.
Adele took Chiara’s hand, her voice trembling with emotion. “Chiara, just listen to Titus and stay home. If something happens to you, too, how do you expect Titus to handle that?”

Chapter 274
Chiara’s lips quivered, but she finally nodded, her voice hoarse. “I get it. I’ll stay home, I won’t go anywhere,” Chiara said.
Heather hugged her tightly. “Just listen, okay? I know Grandpa, Mom, and Dad are watching over us. They’ll keep Ryan safe, I just know it.”
Chiara tried to nod, but the next moment, her eyes fluttered shut, and she collapsed into Heather’s arms. ‘Chiara Heather called out, her voice full of worry.
“Chiara!” Heather shouted, her voice trembling with panic.
Heather and Adele helped Chiara over to the couch and gently laid her down. Heather kept holding her hand, speaking softly. “Let her sleep for a while. It’s easier to get through this when she’s not awake.”
Adele nodded. “Ana, could you get a blanket for Chiara?”
“Right away, Mrs. Goodman,” Ana replied.
Heather stayed by Chiara’s side for a long while, until one of the house staff quietly leaned in and whispered to her. “Miss Lynch, Mr. Bradford’s car is still parked right outside our house…” she murmured.
Every day, the house received fresh milk, fruits, and vegetables, and when the staff went to answer the door, she spotted Kason’s car still parked outside.
Heather’s eyes flickered. “His car is still parked outside?”
“Yes, Miss Lynch,” the staff member replied.
‘So he’s been here ever since he dropped me off yesterday?’ Heather wondered.
After a moment’s thought, Heather gently let go of Chiara’s hand, made sure she was covered up with the blanket, then stood up and headed out.
She pushed open the front gate, and just as she expected, Kason’s car was still parked outside. After a few seconds, she walked over and knocked on the car window.
“Why are you still here?” she asked.
Kason looked at her; she looked exhausted, clearly hadn’t slept all night. Instead, he asked, “I saw Titus rush out just now. Any news?”
Heather nodded. “We found a clue, but we still don’t know what he’s going to do about it yet.”
She glanced at him again. “You should head back to the office. I need to stay here and take care of her; she just fainted.”
Kason saw the dark circles under her eyes, and her eyes were rimmed with red; clearly, she hadn’t slept a wink all night, “So you’re sending me away, but won’t even invite me in for a minute?” Kason said.
Heather hesitated, meeting his gaze. “If you wanted to come in, you would have come in with me last night.” She stepped back. “Alright, thanks for checking on me.”
Heather wasn’t oblivious to his kindness. She knew exactly why Kason had volunteered to drive her home last night; he was worried she’d be too upset and something might happen on the road.
She also understood why he had lingered after dropping her off. Ryan had been such a lovable child, and whenever something happened to him, people could not help but worry.
Heather’s usual coldness faded from her face, and she looked less distant than before. “Bet you didn’t get much sleep last night either. Take care driving back,” she said.

Chapter 274
Kason’s gaze grew a little darker. Noticing her attitude softened, he lifted his hand and crooked his finger at her. “Come here for a second,” he said.
‘Come here for a second? Just say come here. Why make it sound so childish? It’s not like we’re playing house or something: she thought, rolling her eyes.
Still, she stepped closer to the car. In the next instant, he cupped the back of her head, and before she could react, he’d already pulled her in. He kissed her; sudden, sure, and impossible to dodge.
Heather instinctively tried to push him away at first, but as the shock faded, she found herself relaxing in his embrace. The kiss didn’t last long. Kason released her, his fingertips gently tracing the curve of her lips.
“I’ll head back to the office,” Kason said.
Heather gave him a nod after a moment. “Okay.”
Kason’s lips curled up, clearly in a good mood. Seeing this usually cold and distant woman soften up, even just a little, always made his day. He reached out and gave her earlobe a gentle pinch.
“See you,” he said.
Heather watched his car pull away before turning and heading back inside.
At Goodman Group, the police officers followed Titus into his private office. On the coffee table sat a brand-new phone, right next to Chiara’s.
What really threw the cops for a loop was how these two women, clearly in cahoots, managed to deliberately evade every single surveillance camera in Halinston.
Anyone could tell this was a meticulously planned operation; only that kind of flawless execution could make it so airtight.
With the street cameras coming up empty, the police switched tactics and started combing through security footage from nearby shops and businesses.
But weirdly enough, there still wasn’t a single clue; no suspicious faces, nothing out of the ordinary at all. It left the entire city’s police force completely at a loss, with nowhere to go from here..
“Mr. Goodman, still no calls from unknown numbers?” one of the officers asked.
Titus sat back on the couch, silent. Seeing this, Paul shook his head. “No.”
“Man, these kidnappers are way too clever. They must’ve been scheming this for a long time,” another officer muttered, frustration clear in his voice.
Paul’s brow was furrowed, worry etched all over his face; he hadn’t slept a wink all night.
Just then, Chiara’s phone finally rang. Paul looked down at the phone; sure enough, it was an unknown number, no caller ID. His gut told him this was the call they’d been waiting for.
