When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 273

Chapter 273

Chapter 273

Chiara didn’t eat, and neither did anyone else. No one had the appetite to eat right now.

Heather rushed over as soon as she heard the news. “Chiara!” Heather called out.

Hearing her voice, Chiara finally broke down. She cried as if her whole world was falling apart. “Heather!” Chiara sobbed.

That single word shattered Heather’s heart. She hurried over, sat down beside Chiara, and pulled her into a tight hug. “It’s going to be okay. Ryan is a lucky kid. He’ll be fine, I promise!”

Adele’s eyes turned red as she listened, but she didn’t want to let Chiara see her cry. She knew that would only make Chiara feel even more lost and scared.

She wiped the corners of her eyes and turned her head away, unable to watch any longer. Charlie’s eyes grew red, too, his heart aching with worry over Ryan. He pulled Adele into a tight hug, holding her close.

“Ryan’s gone. I’m such a failure. How could I let someone take him away? It’s all my fault. I never should’ve let Ryan be exposed. I never should’ve brought him back to the city.

“If we’d just stayed in that village, none of this would’ve happened…” Chiara sobbed, her voice thick with guilt. “Heather, I wish I hadn’t brought him back.”

Heather’s eyes were red, too. When she heard Ryan had been kidnapped, it was like a bolt from the blue; her whole world was shattered in an instant. Her first thought was of Chiara, wondering how she would cope with this nightmare.

Chiara was crying her heart out in Heather’s arms, overwhelmed by regret, pain, and terror. She felt utterly helpless. It was like she was finally letting out all the emotions she’d been holding in all day.

Heather didn’t come alone. When she got the call, she fumbled with her phone and dropped it straight to the floor.

Her mind was spinning. The car keys were right there, but she was freaking out, searching for them like crazy; totally lost, just like the day she heard about her parents.

All she wanted was to get home, to Chiara. Kason was right there with her, keeping his cool. He reminded her to get dressed and offered to drive her over.

But he didn’t go inside the Lynch residence. Right now, he was sitting in his car outside the gate, smoking, quietly watching the police cars parked in the yard.

Chiara had no idea how long she’d been crying, but this time, nobody tried to stop her. It was as if everyone knew she needed to break down and let every last emotion pour out.

Heather just sat there, holding her in silence, quietly keeping her company. Titus sat quietly to the side, never offering a word of comfort to Chiara.

He knew deep down that Chiara hated him, blamed him for everything. She didn’t want to see him, didn’t want to hear his voice; not now.

Time ticked by, and the atmosphere in the Lynch residence got more and more tense. The police had stationed officers at the Lynch residence, keeping a close eye on the phone, waiting for any calls.

But even as midnight came and went, the phone never rang once, Still, nobody felt even a hint of tiredness.

Dawn was breaking outside, but the two phones on the coffee table were still dead silent; not a single text or unknown call had come through all night.

Chiara felt her heart plummet, like she was sinking into a bottomless pit. She instinctively buried her face in her hands. “My

Ryan…”

Heather’s heart tightened as she hugged Chiara even closer. She shot a glare at Titus, her tone full of accusation and pain.

“Titus, you did everything you could to push Chiara and Ryan to come back. You made it happen. But if you wanted them here so much, why couldn’t you protect Ryan?”

Adele and Charlie were both stunned by Heather’s words. They hadn’t slept a wink all night, and exhaustion was written all over their faces.

They were getting on in years, and their eyes were bloodshot from the sleepless night. But Adele got what Heather meant right away.

Her lips tightened as she looked at Titus, and suddenly, it all clicked for her. ‘So all that drama with the actress was just to force Chiara to come back?’ Adele thought.

Adele’s emotions surged. “How could you even come up with something like that?” she blurted out.

Titus was about to say something, but just then, his phone started ringing. Everyone immediately turned their attention to Titus’s phone.

“The phone! Hurry, answer it!” someone shouted anxiously.

The drowsy police officer nearby instantly perked up, hurriedly putting on his headset, ready to trace the call.

Titus glanced at the screen, his brow furrowing. “It’s not the one.” As soon as he said that, everyone’s hopes sank. Chiara looked utterly devastated, as if her soul had been drained from her.

When Titus saw Jeffrey’s name pop up, his expression instantly turned grim. A call from him at this hour could only mean bad news.

Neither spoke at first; after a few seconds, Jeffrey broke the silence, his voice low and serious. “She escaped,” Jeffrey said.

Titus’s hand clenched around his phone. He shot up from the couch, his voice cold and menacing. “Jeffrey, didn’t I warn you?” Titus snapped.

Jeffrey didn’t answer right away. After a few seconds, he finally said, “I’ll handle the trouble I caused.”

“You’ll handle it? I’ll be waiting to see how you fix this,” Titus shot back.

Now Titus was really losing it. If Ryan had just been snatched by Lena, he could’ve kept his head and figured things out. But if Elaine was mixed up in this…

Everyone stared at him, shocked, waiting for him to say something. But/Titus just looked at Chiara, his voice rough. “I’m sorry…” he muttered.

Chiara’s face went ghostly pale, but she just stared at him, lost, shaking her head like she couldn’t understand. “Sorry for what? Is it about Ryan?” Chiara asked, her voice shaky.

“No,” Titus said, gripping his phone tightly. “Looks like Elaine’s got something to do with this mess.”

“Elaine?” Heather instinctively recoiled at the mention of that name. After all, Elaine was the one responsible for her grandfather’s death.

“Why is she mixed up in this again? Titus, don’t tell me you’ve been keeping in touch with that woman all these years?” Heather demanded.

Titus’s face darkened. “No, I don’t even know if she’s alive or dead.”

Then how do you know she’s involved?’ Heather pressed.

Titus closed his eyes, his voice cold and hard. “Three months ago. Jeffrey brought her back and had her locked up in a mental hospital. I only found out about it recently.”

He’d actually investigated everything that happened after Elaine came back. That included all the official test reports. He turned a blind eye because Jeffrey was his friend, but he still gave Jeffrey a heads-up.

Elaine was supposed to be locked up in the mental hospital, so now it looked like Lena was the one pulling strings to help her get out.

When Chiara heard Elaine was involved, she couldn’t take it anymore; her legs buckled, and she fainted right there, completely overwhelmed.

“Chiara!” Heather shouted, her voice trembling with panic.

Chiara… Titus called softly, guilt and worry heavy in his tone.

Titus moved to approach her, but Heather blocked him with a hard shove. “Get out of the way!” Heather demanded.

Titus’s eyes stayed locked on Chiara, but he didn’t try to push past Heather. He just stared at her pale face, fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned pale, veins bulging on his forehead.

His phone pinged again; it was a message from Jeffrey.

It turned out to be a cleaner working at that mental hospital, and the person in the photo was Lena.

Titus closed his eyes for a moment, trying to hold back his anger, but then gripped his phone so tightly before suddenly hurling it across the room.
