When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 43

**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**

**Chapter 43**

Heather stood before Chiara, her eyes scanning every detail. “You look fantastic, but…” Her voice trailed off, leaving an unspoken tension hanging in the air.

Eunice, ever perceptive, cast a sideways glance at Wayne, her heart sinking as she noticed his unwavering gaze locked onto Chiara. A knowing smirk danced across her lips—she was aware of the silent dynamics at play.

“Wayne?” Eunice called, her tone light yet probing.

Wayne remained oblivious, his attention entirely absorbed by Chiara, as if she were the only person in the room.

Chiara felt the weight of his stare, an uncomfortable sensation that made her shift in her seat, her confidence wavering under the intensity of his gaze.

“Wayne?” Eunice repeated, a little louder this time, trying to pull him back from his reverie.

Finally, Wayne blinked, his eyes flickering back to the present. “You look beautiful,” he said, the words tumbling out with genuine warmth.

Eunice chuckled softly, a teasing lilt in her voice. “So beautiful that you can’t even look away, huh?”

Wayne offered a faint smile, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, but he didn’t argue. He picked up his glass, took a sip, and immediately his gaze was drawn back to Chiara, as if by an invisible thread.

It was clear to everyone in the room what Wayne was thinking. Heather, maintaining her cool composure, raised her glass towards Wayne in a silent toast, concealing any hint of her true feelings.

*The Pierce family seems like a pretty solid choice,* she mused silently, her mind racing with possibilities.

The evening slipped by in a blur of laughter and light-hearted banter, and before long, the show commenced. The first models strutted down the runway, their bikini-clad bodies exuding confidence and charm, each one embodying a different international flair. The crowd erupted with cheers, the atmosphere electric as the men hooted and whistled, celebrating the spectacle before them.

Eunice stole another glance at Wayne, her heart sinking as she saw that his attention was still firmly fixed on Chiara.

“You see that?” Eunice nudged Chiara playfully. “Wayne’s been watching you this entire time. Not even these stunning foreign girls can distract him, and you still think he doesn’t have feelings for you?”

Chiara felt a rush of heat to her cheeks, but she played it cool, pretending not to notice. “Quit talking nonsense,” she muttered, trying to dismiss the idea.

Eunice poured a glass of sweet wine for her, the liquid shimmering in the light. “Don’t worry about the alcohol; it’s really mild. Besides, Heather and I are here to look out for you.”

Chiara took the glass, lifting it to her lips, and was pleasantly surprised by the burst of fruity sweetness that danced on her tongue. It was a refreshing change from the harsh spirits she usually avoided. Just as she was about to take a fifth sip, a hand gently grasped her wrist.

Looking up, she found Wayne watching her, his expression soft and concerned. “Even if it tastes harmless, drink too much and you’ll be spinning. Better to slow down,” he advised, his voice low and soothing.

Chiara held his gaze for a moment, feeling a flutter in her heart. She nodded slowly, retracting her hand. “Okay,” she replied softly, her heart racing.

Wayne’s gentle look lingered, his eyes softening even more, though there was an unreadable depth behind them as he continued to watch her.

Meanwhile, on the second floor, Jeffrey observed the scene below, unable to suppress a burst of laughter.

“What’s so funny, Mr. Yates?” a woman beside him inquired, her curiosity piqued.

He shot her a quick glance, and she promptly turned away, sensing his disinterest. With a smirk, he pulled out his phone and dialed Titus.

“What’s up?” came Titus’s voice, sounding distracted.

“Not much, just checking if you want to join me for a drink,” Jeffrey replied casually.

“Can’t. No time,” Titus responded curtly.

Jeffrey hung up, a mischievous idea sparking in his mind. He quickly recorded a short video, capturing the scene below, and sent it off to Titus.

Titus, engrossed in a meeting, glanced at the incoming message. Something about the preview caught his attention, prompting him to click and open the video. The moment he recognized who was in the footage, his expression darkened ominously. He shot up from his chair, startling his colleagues, who exchanged bewildered glances.

“Mr. Goodman?” someone called out, concern creeping into their voice.

Titus remained fixated on his phone, letting out a cold laugh that sent shivers down the spines of those around him. Without a word, he stormed out of the conference room, leaving a trail of confusion behind him.

Paul, quick to react, stood up and announced, “Meeting’s over. We’ll reconvene tomorrow.” He hurried after Titus, sensing the storm brewing.

Back at the party, Chiara felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She sank onto the couch, her eyes fluttering shut, a soft smile playing on her lips as she relaxed.

Eunice turned to Chiara, her heart swelling with affection. She thought Chiara looked breathtaking in that moment. Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone and snapped a few candid pictures.

“What are you doing?” Chiara asked, her voice slightly slurred.

“Capturing this moment! You seriously don’t realize how stunning you look right now. Absolutely irresistible. If I were a guy, I’d be completely captivated,” Eunice teased, her eyes sparkling.

Chiara’s cheeks flushed even deeper, and she playfully swatted Eunice’s arm. “Girls shouldn’t say things like that!”

Eunice chuckled, shaking her head. “Honestly, I have no idea how Titus hasn’t noticed you. He must be blind.”
