When She Ended It With Divorce (Chiara and Titus) novel Chapter 51

**Silent Roads Remember by Sawyer**
**Chapter 51**

Elaine was jolted back to reality, her heart racing as she attempted to sprint after them. But Jeffrey stepped into her path, a wall of calmness that halted her in her tracks.

“What on earth are you doing? Move aside!” Elaine’s voice was sharp, laced with urgency.

With a slow, deliberate motion, Jeffrey released his grip on her, his expression unreadable. “You won’t catch up to them,” he replied, his tone almost pitying.

Elaine shot him a furious glare, her teeth clenching as she fought back the frustration bubbling within her. The image of Jeffrey intervening with Titus earlier replayed in her mind, and before she could think better of it, she blurted out, “Were you trying to help Chiara back there?”

Jeffrey took a moment, his gaze steady as he considered her question. Then, a low chuckle escaped him, a sound that felt oddly dismissive. “Wasn’t it you who suggested I flirt with her?”

Elaine opened her mouth to respond, but Chiara’s earlier words about divorce echoed ominously in her thoughts.

“Are they really getting divorced?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly with uncertainty.

Jeffrey’s eyes flicked down to hers, a faint smile playing on his lips, as if he found her naivety amusing. “Does Titus strike you as the type who’s ready to let go of his marriage?”

“What do you mean by that?” Elaine’s brow knitted in confusion, her heart pounding.

“Can’t you see what I’m saying?” Jeffrey replied, his tone teasing yet serious.

Suddenly, realization dawned on Elaine, and she looked up at him, her expression shifting from confusion to shock. “You’re saying Chiara wants out, but Titus won’t let her?” The words tumbled out of her mouth, disbelief etched on her features.

Jeffrey clicked his tongue, an exasperated sound. “Isn’t that obvious?”

Elaine’s emotions swirled within her—first pale, then tense—as she clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white. Confusion and anger battled for dominance in her mind.

“But why…” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jeffrey tilted her chin gently, his gaze settling on the wound on her hand. “She certainly didn’t hold back. You’ll have to try a bit harder next time,” he said, his tone a mixture of sympathy and challenge.

With that, Jeffrey turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Elaine standing there, a storm of emotions swirling inside her.

Fuming, Elaine ran her fingers through her hair in frustration and, in a fit of rage, flipped a nearby chair over with a loud crash that echoed through the room.

Eunice burst through the door, only to catch a fleeting glimpse of the car’s taillights disappearing around the corner. Frustrated, she stomped her foot and quickly pulled out her phone, dialing Chiara’s number with trembling fingers.

But the call ended almost as soon as it connected.

“Chiara? Hey, are you there? Chiara!” Eunice called out, her voice laced with anxiety.

Clutching her phone tightly, Eunice felt a wave of dread wash over her as she recalled the furious expression on Titus’s face just moments ago.

“Titus wouldn’t hurt a woman, would he?” she murmured, her heart heavy with worry.

“No,” came Jeffrey’s voice from behind her.

Eunice turned to see him standing there, his demeanor calm and collected. She recognized him, but they weren’t friends; their social circles rarely overlapped. Still, she was well aware of his long-standing friendship with Titus.

Given her issues with Titus, she felt no inclination to be friendly with his friends either. To her, they all belonged to the same category of people—untrustworthy and arrogant.

Jeffrey had a reputation for constantly changing girlfriends, and Eunice’s friends never missed a chance to gossip about his latest romantic escapades.

With a disinterested glance, she turned her attention away from him. Her injured hand made it impossible for her to drive, so she reluctantly called for her driver to come and pick her up.

Jeffrey noticed her indifference but chose not to press the issue. After all, she had sustained her injury at one of his restaurants, and he wasn’t about to waste time arguing with her.

The Yates Group, his family’s business, was a giant in the food and entertainment industry, owning most of the upscale restaurants and hotels in Halinston.

“Ms. Murphy, it appears your finger is dislocated. You might want to get it examined at the hospital,” Jeffrey stated, his voice professional yet concerned.

Eunice grimaced at the sight of her swollen finger, biting her lip in annoyance. “If I had known I was going to get into a fight today, I would have brought my bodyguards,” she snapped, her irritation palpable.

Jeffrey raised an eyebrow but remained silent. He thought to himself, ‘This woman is fierce; she doesn’t hold back, going straight for the jugular.’

Meanwhile, Chiara was frozen in disbelief as she watched her phone sail out of the window, landing with a shattering thud. She turned to Titus, fury igniting within her. “Titus, what the hell is wrong with you? Who gave you the right to throw my phone away?”

Titus pulled her closer, his expression dark and brooding. “What, are you addicted to throwing punches now? Can’t control yourself?”

Chiara lifted her chin defiantly, her voice icy. “So what if I did? No one has ever laid a hand on Eunice in her entire life. I’ve always been the one to step aside for her. Why should she be the one to suffer at your hands? I slapped you because you deserved it!”

Titus snapped, “Chiara!”

Chiara shot him a scornful look. “Yeah, I hit her. So what? Are you going to hit me back for her?”
