Who Knew My Assigned Mechanic Husband Was a Big Shot? novel Chapter 29

It was Serena Sutton and her obnoxious friend again.

Serena crossed her arms, glaring at Sloane with utter disdain. "You clearly never step foot in designer boutiques. Did you even bother checking the price tag?"

Sloane replied coldly, "I did. What's your point?"

"I always knew your whole 'poor independent woman' act was fake. A dress this expensive, and you're just going to buy it? Let's be real—you're using Silas's money, aren't you? Sloane, you're pathetic. You reject the high-status men Silas introduces you to, you act like you're above attending our social galas, but the second he hands you cash, you swipe it without hesitation?"

Sloane's patience completely evaporated.

"Serena, I will say this one last time. I have never taken a single dime from Silas Sutton. If you don't believe me, go ask him yourself. Keep me out of your delusions."

"And for the record, I'm not buying this dress."

Serena sneered. "Not buying it? Perfect. Take it off. I'm buying it."

She turned to the clerk. "As soon as she takes it off, ring it up for me."

The clerk stood awkwardly, waiting for Sloane to change.

But Logan's voice cut through the tension. "Hold on."

"You don't need to take it off. We're buying it."

"..." Sloane stared at Logan.

Was he still stuck in his Commander Sterling persona?

Did he actually think he was a billionaire warlord?

She leaned in and whispered frantically, "Logan, we don't need to max out your credit cards just to prove a point."

They had just met at the Civil Affairs Bureau less than a week ago. They weren't at the stage of buying each other luxury gifts.

Logan held her gaze. "We've been married for almost a week, and I haven't bought you a single gift. Consider this my wedding present."

"But—"

Logan leaned down, his voice dropping to a low, intimate murmur right by her ear. "I love your cooking. I want to keep eating your food."
