You Cheated I Moved On novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14 Everyone’s as Foolish as You Are

Warmth stirred in Chloe at Sonia’s kindness, a rare sense of being defended that she cherished. Yet clarity was necessary— she couldn’t leave the girl with false hope.

“You invited me here for this, right? Could you pass a message to Mr. Price? We’re not a good match,” she said firmly, her gaze steady on Sonia’s face.

Sonia’s face wrinkled with distress. “But this way, you’ll lose Mr. Shaw’s inheritance.”

Calmly shaking her head, Chloe made her stance clear: “I’ll consult a lawyer to explore other possibilities. If marriage is the only condition, donating the inheritance is acceptable.”

One failed relationship was enough—she refused to trap herself in another mistake.

Unwilling to let the matter drop, Sonia leaned forward slightly. “May I ask why?”

Her tone flat and unwavering, Chloe replied, “He’s too promiscuous.”

Her eyes widened, mouth hanging open as she stared at Chloe in sheer disbelief.

Chloe handed over a tissue, her expression calm. “What’s the issue?”

“Promiscuous? There must be a misunderstanding, Chloe.” Sonia dabbed at her mouth, still reeling. “Ethan’s such a quiet introvert-he’s never even had a girlfriend, let alone been promiscuous.”

The word “promiscuous” simply didn’t belong in the same sentence as Ethan, in her opinion.

Chloe’s expression stayed unchanged. Men excelled at pretense. She’d once thought Julian the perfect husband, only to discover their marriage was fake-five years of deception unraveled in an instant.

“He puts on this refined gentleman act, but behind closed doors, he’s probably drowning in whiskey, chain-smoking, and juggling a whole roster of mistresses,” she remarked with biting clarity.

Sonia fell silent, her mouth opening and closing as she struggled for words.

“Regardless, thank you for standing up for me today.” Chloe stood up, grabbing her bag. “Please relay my words to Mr. Price.

Sonia didn’t stop her-clearing up this misunderstanding with Ethan took priority.

Fresh air greeted Chloe as she left the café, and she immediately contacted the real estate agent.

He arrived within twenty minutes, but led her to a different apartment than the one online.

“This isn’t the unit you posted online,” Chloe said, glancing at the community sign-Regal Garden Elegance, a high-end complex with prices nearing tens of thousands per square foot. “I can’t afford to rent here.”

The agent hurried to explain, “Ms. Shaw, the unit you liked was rented right before your call. Since you mentioned a long-term lease, I have another listing-the owner is abroad for three to five years and wants the place occupied. Rent isn’t a concern; he only asks for a clean female tenant, given the expensive furnishings.”

Doubt lingered, but temptation pulled at Chloe.

The community’s lush greenery and quiet surroundings were perfect for a single person.

“Shall we take a look first?” the agent said eagerly.

Shipe agreed, following him to the eighth floor and the end of:40

the corridor-unit 777, a lucky number that made her pause briefly.

The agent unlocked the door, and sunlight flooded in- south-facing, bright and warm. Furnished in minimalist style, it had two bedrooms, a living room, and a spacious balcony- everything Chloe could want.

A full tour revealed no flaws. “What do you think, Ms: Shaw?” the agent asked, reading her expression closely.

“I can only afford 3,000 dollars a month. Will the owner agree?” Chloe said, her tone cautious.

“Absolutely,” the agent assured her, patting his chest.

Chloe eyed him with suspicion.

A faint twitch crossed his face, unease flickering in his eyes before he masked it.

The agent recovered quickly, forcing a smile. “Like I said, the owner cares more about a good tenant. You’re young, elegant, and well-mannered-perfect. I checked with him already; he’s on board. Shall we sign the contract now?”

His eagerness bordered on desperation, as if fearing she’d back

in plain sight of him.

“Better safe than sorry,” Chloe smiled faintly, sweeping the apartment-bedroom and bathroom included-with the device. No hidden cameras were found.

“Too many bad people out there; protecting yourself is wise,” she said, tucking the detector away.

Satisfied, she took the contract, signed it, and paid three months’ deposit in advance.

“How should I pay the rent moving forward?” Chloe asked.

“I’ll send you the owner’s WhatsApp,” the agent replied, doing so at once. The profile picture showed a silly husky with no

nickname attached.

Out of politeness, Chloe sent a message: [Hello, I’m your tenant. I’ll pay rent on the 15th of each month-does that work?]

She set the phone aside, heading out to buy daily necessities once the agent left, then spent hours cleaning the apartment.

Dusk painted the sky by the time she finished.

Standing on the balcony, watching the setting sun, Chloe felt the bitterness of recent days ease slightly.

Just then, her phone vibrated with messages from Julian: [Why haven’t you come back?]
