Chapter 15 Jane Got Kicked Out

Chloe’s words detonated like a bomb, throwing the room into

chaos.

“Chloe, what… what did you say?” Lauren gaped, unable to believe her ears.

This wasn’t the docile Chloe she’d bullied for years-how dared she talk back?

Lauren pointed sharply at Chloe, her hand trembling with rage as she turned to Julian. “Julian, look at your wife!”

Julian glared at Chloe, his expression gloomy. “How dare you talk to Mom like that? What’s gotten into you?” Unease gnawed at his gut as he stepped forward.

Chloe lifted her chin, meeting his gaze head-on. The charade was over-five years of humiliation and groveling, all taken for granted by Julian and the Summers family.

“What’s gotten into me? Did you seriously think I’d just stand there and take her abuse forever? She’s practically moved Jane in, doting on a stranger while treating me like dirt. I’ve been enduring all along. Frankly, speaking up now makes me the bigger person,” she retorted, her voice sharp.

With that, she shoved past Julian and stormed upstairs, the sound of her footsteps echoing through the hall.

He hurried after her, his tone defensive. “Do you have to be so dramatic? I’ve explained-Mom isn’t well. Jane is just here to help.”

“You’re always defending her.” Chloe’s words dripped with sarcasm. She paused in the doorway of their room, turning to face him. “What’s the real story, Julian? Are you two involved? I know about your history-childhood sweethearts, wasn’t it? If you want her, just say so. I’ll step aside.”

Julian froze, his expression stiffening.

Then, in two quick strides, he closed the distance between them, pulling her into a tight embrace.

“Don’t talk like that. You know there’s no one else. Only you,” he murmured into her hair, his voice urgent.

A wave of icy contempt washed over Chloe.

She might have respected him if he’d had the courage to ask for a divorce outright.

Instead, Julian wanted it all-Logan’s shares, Jane’s affection- and saw no issue with weaving a web of lies to keep it.

She pushed him away, her movements deliberate. “Fine. Prove it. Ask Jane to leave. Once she’s gone, I’ll consider coming back. Until then, I’m staying elsewhere. I can’t breathe in this house anymore.”

She turned back to the open suitcase on the bed, ignoring his continued pleas.

Julian didn’t try to stop her again. A deeper fear held him back -the risk that she might uncover the full truth about him and Jane, turning this clash into an irreparable disaster.

Downstairs, the scene was unchanged.

Lauren remained fuming on the sofa, with Jane perched beside her, offering soft words of consolation.

Jane’s eyes, however, drifted to the staircase, and a faint, unmistakable gleam lit them up at the sight of Chloe descending with her suitcase.

Chloe paused at the bottom step, her gaze sweeping over them before settling on Julian. “Remember your promise,” she stated, her voice firm and clear.

“At least let me drive you,” Julian said, a vague sense of foreboding settling in his chest.

“No.” Her reply was immediate, her tone strangely cal. “Stay41

Your mother needs you. I need some space.”

Chloe walked out without a backward glance, already waiting for the day he would come begging for her return.

The moment the front door clicked shut, Lauren erupted. “That girl gets more insolent by the day! Just you watch-she’ll come crawling back in a few days, nowhere else to go. And Julian, don’t you dare let her in when she does!”

Julian’s face darkened. “That’s enough, Mom. Try to be fair. Chloe has cared for you every single time you’ve been ill. She even learned to cook your favorite San Antonio-style dishes. There’s no need to treat her like an enemy.”

Julian conceded, if only to himself, that his mother judged Chloe too harshly. He would have been content with her as his wife, if not for Jane.

His words left Lauren momentarily speechless, shocked by his uncharacteristic rebuke.

Beside her, jealousy flared hot in Jane’s heart, but she quickly bowed her head, painting a look of guilt across her features. “This is all my fault. I’ll pack my things tomorrow. I never meant to cause trouble in your home.”

Lauren’s anger blazed hotter, fueled by her son’s criticism.

Stay right here-you’re Julian’s real wife. Chloe’s nothing but a

At her words, Jane stiffened.

Lauren had unknowingly insulted her, too—she was Steven’s real daughter-but arguing was out of the question. She turned to Julian, her voice soft and gentle.

“Honey, don’t fight with Lauren. She’s just recovered. Chloe will be back once she calms down.”

Julian’s expression softened as he recalled how Chloe always apologized first in their fights. “I’m sorry you’re caught in this. I’ll make it up to you later.”

“It’s okay-you and Lauren matter most,” Jane smiled softly, her back teeth clenched tightly.

Chloe had finally left, and she’d never let Chloe return easily.

Two peaceful days passed for Chloe in her new apartment.

She occasionally checked Jane’s Instagram-her displays of affection were more subtle, but she still posted photos from Summers Manor: Lauren taking her for afternoon breaks, the garden in full bloom, countless envious comments flooding the

posts.

Her phone rang suddenly, Jasper’s name popping up on the screen. “My Ms. Shaw, where are you?” His voice was unusually meek.

Chloe sipped her coffee leisurely, leaning back in her chair. “On vacation. What’s the problem?”

Jasper rambled anxiously, running a hand through his thinning hair.

“Can you come back? We’re stuck with the Apex Group

interview.” He’d never expected Jane to be thrown out of Apex Group before even meeting anyone.
