Chapter 26 Stay with Her

“This whole Jane thing isn’t over yet-I’m still pissed about this!”

Julian remembered that Chloe had been upset about Jane staying at their house.

“I’ll have her move out tomorrow.”

Julian grabbed her wrist, moved her hand away from his mouth, and leaned down to kiss her…

Just as Chloe was thinking about how to push Julian away, her phone suddenly buzzed on the bed.

She seized the opportunity to push him back. “I need to take

this.”

Julian’s expression darkened. Was he seeing things? It looked like Chloe had actually seemed relieved.

Ignoring Julian’s mood, Chloe picked up her phone. To her surprise, it was Liam calling.

“Hey Chloe, Ethan wanted to know if you’re free tomorrow to look at some venues with him?”

Looking at venues? Already?

“Sure.”

Chloe kept it casual, answering Liam’s question.

“I can pick you up tomorrow.”

“No need. Just text me the address-I’ll meet you there.”

A chill ran down her spine. Discussing wedding plans with Ethan right in front of Julian was certainly… bold.

Liam didn’t push and hung up.

He looked at the man sitting behind the office desk. “She said yes, but… Julian might have been there. She kept it short.”

Word was that Chloe and Julian went to the Summers house today and hadn’t left yet. Presumably, she’d be staying over with Julian.

Liam couldn’t shake the feeling that Ethan had timed this call on

purpose.

Ethan’s expression was ice cold. “Got it.”

Meanwhile, Chloe had just put down her phone when Julian moved closer. “Who was that?”

Why was he pretending? He’d obviously seen her scre. 17:44

“Liam. About Ethan’s interview-he needs to go over some details and we’re meeting tomorrow… God, I’m exhausted.”

Chloe yawned, acting tired as she climbed into bed.

“I’m going to sleep. You should shower too.”

Nothing suspicious about Chloe’s explanation. As Ethan’s

assistant, it made perfect sense for Liam to coordinate interview details with her.

“Mm.”

Julian grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom.

The moment he disappeared inside, Chloe quickly pulled up the voice memo on her phone and hit play. Julian’s voice came through the speaker:

“I’ll have her move out tomorrow…”

Chloe smiled, edited the recording, and sent it to Jane with a

message:

[Julian says you need to move out tomorrow. Better pack everything up

After sending the message, she tossed her phone aside and waited for Julian to come out of the bathroom.

Julian was still in the shower, but his phone on his jacket was already buzzing like crazy.

Jane really couldn’t keep it together. One simple message and – she was already desperately trying to get Julian’s attention.

Ten minutes later, Julian emerged from the bathroom, steam following behind him. Wrapped in a towel, his dark eyes found Chloe in the center of the bed. Just as he was about to approach, Chloe pointed to his phone.

“Your phone’s been going off nonstop. Something important?”

Julian had no choice but to check his phone. After reading the messages, his brow furrowed deeply. He looked up, staring at Chloe.

“What’s wrong?”

She blinked innocently.

Julian’s throat worked as he seemed to struggle with something.

Chloe softened her voice. “Is it work? If you need to handle something, go ahead. I’ll explain to Logan.”

After hesitating, Julian opened the closet, pulled out clothes, and started dressing. “Sorry about this.”

Julian left.

Chloe’s smile faded as she lay back under the covers, forcing herself to sleep.

Jane was nearly losing it. What was Chloe trying to say by sending that recording? Did she know about her and Julian, or was she just pissed that Jane was staying at the house?

But she couldn’t confront Julian with Chloe’s recording-that would make Julian think she was completely clueless. She could only pretend to be hurt and get Julian to come back.

She waited in her room with her phone, and after nearly an hour, finally heard a car outside.
