Chapter 13

Stephanie’s calmness was a huge contrast to Tyler’s fury.

“Mr. Grover, if I remember correctly, you were the one who told me to never involve private affairs in the company.”

Tyler widened his eyes immediately.

“Have you completely forgotten that rule when Kiara is involved?”

“You’re right, but that doesn’t mean you can splash juice at her!” Tyler tugged at his tie, clearly irritated.

Stephanie was quick to pick up on a certain message from his response.

“So, you knew very well that I didn’t splash coffee at Kiara in the pantry, didn’t you?”

It turned out that Tyler knew the truth all this time. And yet, he chose to take Kiara’s side.

Tyler averted his gaze out of guilt. “Kiki…”

Truthfully speaking, when he saw how Stephanie had reacted earlier, he understood what the truth really was.

Stephanie didn’t splash coffee at Kiara. It turned out that Kiara had orchestrated the whole thing herself.

But Tyler didn’t have the heart to scold Kiara at all. She had it really tough this whole time. Despite her deep love for him, she couldn’t be with him openly because of her status as his adoptive sister. When she got married overseas, she ended up getting abused by her ex- husband. She wanted a child of her own very badly, and yet she couldn’t give birth at all.

How could he ever have the heart to scold Kiara?

That was why he could only scold Stephanie.

But as he gazed into Stephanie’s eyes, Tyler was at a loss for words at that moment.

Truthfully speaking, Stephanie wasn’t surprised in the slightest. After all, Tyler was capable of masking Kiara’s involvement in something as serious as the car accident.

Why would she be weirded out by the fact that he took Kiara’s side in this incident?

Some time later, Tyler spoke up again, this time in a gentler tone. “That’s enough, Steph. Kiki doesn’t know any better. Don’t take her actions to heart.”

He stood up and approached Stephanie so that he could take her hand.

“I heard that a new handbag is on the market. Why don’t I buy one for you?”

Stephanie drew her hand out of his grasp. “I don’t need it.”

Where did he get his source from, anyway? Was it Kiara?

Was Tyler planning on appeasing both lovers by gifting them the same thing again?

“Come on. Cheer up for my sake, okay? If you’re moody, I feel moody too.”

Whenever Stephanie got moody in the past, Tyler would coax her like this.

Back then, she thought he meant every word he said. But it appeared that he was nothing but a big, disgusting phony.

He was just coaxing her for Kiara’s sake, wasn’t he?

As expected, the next thing Tyler said was, “Besides, Kiki is in a bad mood today. She just took over the project, so she doesn’t understand many of the details concerning the project. She ended up pissing off the client today.

“Just help her out, okay? Otherwise, you’d have worked on the project for the past six months for nothing.”

“I’m not going to let my team’s efforts go to waste,” Stephanie stated.

Tyler thought she was about to agree with his request. He was about to sigh in relief when she said, “But I won’t help Kiara out.”

“You…” Tyler’s expression darkened instantly. “Steph, I’m going to become really angry if you keep this up.”

Since Stephanie loved him so much, she’d be terrified of the idea of him being mad at her. She’d definitely panic as well.

But Stephanie continued gazing at him coldly.

This time, it was Tyler’s turn to panic.

How could this be? Why wasn’t Stephanie reacting to his threat at all? Could it be that she no longer loved him as much as she did before?

No way!

Tyler didn’t even realize how alarmed he felt at the moment. He just stared at Stephanie’s face, hoping to spot a trace of nervousness or sadness in her eyes.

It was then his phone rang loudly, snapping him out of his trance. He shot Stephanie a look before heading back to the desk and picking up his phone.

It was a phone call from the client.

Typically speaking, Tyler’s clients wouldn’t call him without informing him in advance. After all, he was the successor of Grover Group, making him a man with higher social standing. There was a chance that this particular client was extremely pissed off because of Kiara’s

performance.

When Tyler answered the call, the client was quite polite with him over the phone. But at the same time, the client also declared his company’s stance-he wanted Stephanie to remain as the person in charge of the project. If Tyler’s insistence on changing the person in charge ended up causing the project to be wrapped up carelessly, then the client would terminate all collaborations with Grover Group in the future.

Tyler was extremely displeased, to say the least. He’d end up sustaining a bigger loss if he were to lose a reliable business partner because of his decision to swap Stephanie out.

So, he had no choice but to accept the client’s condition.

After ending the call, Tyler looked at Stephanie once again.

“Steph, you’ll still remain as the person in charge of this project. Kiki… shall become the second-in-command.”

Even at this time, Tyler refused to give up on setting aside some bonuses for Kiara.

“You want to nominate her as my second-in-command, you say?” Stephanie flashed Tyler a sarcastic smile. “Mr. Grover, if I remember correctly, I’m the one with the authority right now.

Her words made Tyler frown slightly. “What do you mean by that?”

“What I mean is… if you want me to continue taking charge of this project, then I want Kiara to back out of this project entirely. From now on, she won’t have anything to do with this project.”

Kiara, who happened to walk out of the lounge at that moment, overheard Stephanie’s words. She screeched immediately, “You can’t let her do that, Ty!”
