Chapter 24
Sophia said all that mainly to remind Jonathan–if Kevin could hurt his fiancée from a family that had been close to his for generation, just imagine how dangerous he really was.
There was no way to be sure Kevin wasn’t getting close to Yvette just for the Chandler family’s money
Wette didn’t notice how pale Jonathan had gotten, She was still trying hard to explain. “Kevin’s not like that. This has to be a misunderstanding
Now that she had made her point, Sophia didn’t say more. She shrugged and spread her hands. “Whatever you say. After all, you’re closer to Kevin than
to Jonathan.”
Yvette opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. She lowered her eyes, looking hurt and sad.
Jonathan didn’t comfort her like he usually would. His expression was hard to read. “Yvette, no matter if it’s true or not, you should stay away from Kevin
from now on.”
What he meant was that he didn’t want people talking, But Yvette took it the wrong way. She looked up in surprise. “Dad…”
Jonathan waved her off. He had a lot to deal with and left without another word.
Yvette’s hands twisted the hem of her dress until it was a wrinkled mess. She hated Sophia so much she wished she would just disappear.
She carefully smoothed her dress, went back to her room, and called Kevin.
She didn’t believe a word Sophia had said. But this time, Kevin–who usually picked up right away–ignored three of her calls.
She texted him on WhatsApp too, but got no reply.
“What’s going on?” Yvette started to panic again. It felt like her life was heading somewhere unknown.
Ciara got back to the Kent residence. She was tall, wearing a white business sult, and her sharp features made her look bright and confident. Her short, chin–length hair made her seem even cooler and more capable.
“Cara, what’s going on! Are you really calling off the engagement?her dad, Thomas, asked, looking confused. He couldn’t understand why Ciara had suddenly told him she wanted to break off the engagement.
Rachel, her mom, asked worriedly, “Did Kevin do something to hurt you?”
Thomas frowned. “We’ve watched Kevin grow up. He and Ciara have always had a good relationship. How could this happen?”
Rachel immediately got mad and glared at him. “So what? No matter what, he’s not more important than Clara. Are you doubting your own daughter?”
Thomas shook his head. “Of course not. I’m just worried maybe someone’s trying to stir up trouble. Maybe it’s all a misunderstanding.
Clara put a stack of papers on the table. “Dad, Mom, look at this first,”
Thomas and Rachel exchanged a look, then picked up the papers and started reading.
The more they read, the paler they looked, Rachel’s hands were shaking with anger. “This engagement must be called oft Clara can’t marry a man like that!”
Thomas frowned even harder and looked at Cara. “Where did you get all this?
“What do you mean?” Rachel smacked Thomas on the back. “Are you saying Ciara taked it?”

Chapter 24
Thomas winced but explained, “I just think, what it
Rachel cut him off angrily. “Enough. Didn’t you see the pictures of Kevin hupping another woman? Don’t tell me you think they‘
“He’s already messing around before mariage. What do you think he’d see? And
and to defend him! Did you forget who your real child is?
Rachel was so mad her chest was heaving the glated hard at Thomas, ready to blow up. Thomas quickly burned to Clara. “Clara, did you find this out yourself of…?”
Cara didn’t hide anything. “Someone sent it to me. I checked everything it’s all fron“.
This time Rachel stayed quiet. But Thomas’s face kept getting darker
The two families had a lot of business ties over the years, and some of their work even overlapped. Now Thomas realized the businesses overlapped by almost eighty percent. Just thinking about it sent a chill done his spine.
Kevin had never really liked her, and she didn’t have much feeling for him either. When they got engaged, she was still young. As she grew up, she just thought Kevin was a good match for the family.
Thomas sat on the couch, holding the papers in his hands, not saying a word.
Rachel sighed, patted his shoulder, and said, “Ciara’s right, if we’re going to break ties, we have to do it cleanly. Even if it hurts both sides, we can’t let the Sampson family look down on us.”
Thomas was really upset. After all, he and Kevin’s father, Mike, had been friends since they were kids. But when it came to real interests, an old friend didn’t seem so important anymore.
Thomas wiped his face, looked at his wife and daughter who were both firm, and gave a bitter smile, “listen to you.”
Clara looked at Thomas, who seemed like he had agad ten years in just a few minutes. She felt bad too. But there was no choice. They had to make sacrifices to protect themselves.
She wasn’t stupid. She had already noticed the shady relationship between Kevin and Yvette. She just hadn’t cared before. But now, there i to stay in touch
“Mr. Kent, Mrs. Kent, the Sampsons are here,” a servant reported.
