Chapter 78
Chapter 78
C
At the Chandler Group, Wilbur left the conference room after the meeting and returned to his desk. He pulled out his phone and glanced at an
anonymous message.
His face darkened, his pupils narrowing sharply. Just as he was about to reply and ask who the sender was, a deep voice came behind him,
“Wilbur, come to my office,” Sean said.
Wilbur quickly composed himself, set his phone down, and replied, “Yes, Mr. Chandler.”
Half an hour later, when Wilbur came out of the office, another anonymous message appeared on his phone. [Mrs. Chandler has sent someone to investigate you. If you don’t want your identity exposed, leave now.]
Wilbur glanced around cautiously, took his phone, and headed to the restroom. He closed the door and typed. [Who are you?]
The reply came swiftly. [Don’t worry about who I am. I know you’re Jonathan’s illegitimate son, and I know you want revenge on him. But Mrs. Chandler has already caught wind of it before you could even start. But lucky for you, you’ve got me.]
Wilbur took off his glasses. Whether this person was telling the truth or not, it seemed his identity had been exposed. The thought filled him with frustration and unwillingness.
Wilbur’s face twisted with anger, his eyes burning with hatred. His fists clenched tightly.
He had worked hard to join the Chandler Group and became Sean’s assistant. He thought, ‘How can I leave now? But if I stayed and Mrs. Chandler
uncovered the truth, all my efforts would be for nothing.‘
Gritting his teeth, he sent another message. [Why are you telling me this? What’s your real motive?]
Wilbur thought, ‘I can’t leave. Even if it means going down in flames, I’m determined to make Jonathan pay dearly!
Seeing his response, Sophia chuckled softly and replied. [I want to help you. Need my help? Just reply 1.]
Wilbur’s fingers trembled as he hesitated, and he slowly typed 1. Holding his breath, he waited to see what the other person had in mind. But he didn’t receive a reply.
Wilbur was speechless.
Sophia closed her laptop and sat on her bed, swinging her legs. She called Jonathan. The first call went unanswered, and the second rang for a long time before he finally picked up.
“What’s up? Can’t it wait until I get home? I’m in a meeting,” Jonathan said, his tone annoyed.
“Jonathan, we’ve got trouble. You have exposed yourself!” Sophia exclaimed, her voice exaggeratedly urgent while casually swinging her legs.
Jonathan replied, “Do you know what you’re talking about?”
Sophia said, feigning panic. “Howard went to the hospital to pull Yvette off life support, but Kevin beat him up instead.
“I went to see Heather at the hospital and overheard her on the phone, hiring people to dig into your illegitimate son. She found something.”
Jonathan shot up from his seat, his face darkening as he stormed out of the meeting room. “What did you just say?” He thought, ‘An illegitimate child? And Heather found out?‘
Sophia fell silent,

Chapter 78
“Spit it out! Who is the illegitimate kid?” Jonathan demanded, his voice rising.
“Jonathan, I took hush money,” Sophia said slowly, her tone deliberately casual. “I promised Heather I wouldn’t say anything”
Jonathan felt a wave of frustration wash over him. He knew that Sophia was angling for money again.
Sophia continued, “Heather gave me 3 million dollars as hush money.”
Jonathan took a deep breath, trying to suppress his anger. “Just tell me what’s going on. I’ll transfer the money to you.”
“I can’t do it. I took the money, so I have to keep my promise. Giving you a heads–up is already a favor. Be careful,” Sophia said, then hung up and
blocked his number.
Jonathan tried calling again, only to find that his number had been blocked. His WhatsApp had been blocked as well.
Jonathan was so furious that his vision blurred. He thought, ‘That troublemaker! How can an illegitimate child suddenly appear out of nowhere? The more he thought about it, the more absurd it seemed.
Jonathan called home and found out Sophia was there. Without wasting a second, he handed the meeting over to Sean and rushed back.
“Sophia!” Jonathan’s voice boomed through the house as he stormed in, catching Sophia in the middle of playing with a dagger.
Sophia glanced at the time and smirked. “Wow, you’re back fast,” she said, opening the door. Her eyes swept over Jonathan, whose face was pale, and sweat dripped from his forehead. “Weren’t you in a meeting? What’s the emergency?”
Jonathan yanked at his tie, his anger boiling over. “What the hell was that call about?”
Feigning innocence, Sophia blinked at him. “What? I don’t remember saying anything. Don’t go accusing me of things I didn’t do.”
She slid the dagger into its golden sheath with a satisfying click. The sheath, encrusted with red gemstones, gleamed so brightly.
The sight of the sharp blade made Jonathan instinctively take a step back. Even though he was seething with the urge to kill her, he forced himself to calm down. “You want money, don’t you? 3 million dollars, right? Fine, I’ll give it to you.”
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat at the offer, but she hesitated, her expression turning thoughtful. “You can have a chat with Heather. Coming to me like this announces to her that I’ve betrayed her. If word goes out, what happens to my reputation?”
Jonathan gritted his teeth. “Why did you call me in the first place?“/
Sophia’s lips curved into a sly smile. “To squeeze a little more out of you, of course.”
Jonathan was speechless. “How much do you want?” he asked angrily.
Sophia’s eyes sparkled with mischief, and her smile widened. “For my reputation, it’s got to be at least double.”
