Heather thought to herself, ‘My savings are my last safety. I wouldn’t give them to anyone unless I really had to not even to my thres buy. And now Sophia wants them? How dare she.’

“I wouldn’t take your private stuff even if you offered.” Sophia leaned closer, her stare fixed on Heather, making her skin crawl.

Heather frowned and moved back. “Why are you so close? Looking for a fight?”

Sophia pulled back in disgust. “You’re so fragile if you drop dead just from a touch, who’s gonna take the blame?”

Heather felt a sense of relief at what Sophia said. But Sophia kept going, her tone turning cold: “Heather, what you just said made me very unhappy

Heather was stunned. Sophia’s face turned icy. She snapped, “I just mentioned your private assets and you lashed out at me. Tell me. Am I really your daughter or not?”

Heather sighed. She thought Sophia would finally drop it, but to her surprise, she asked again.

This time, Heather answered calmly, “Of course you’re my daughter. Who else would you be? Did someone tell you something?”

Sophia just smiled. “Well, if you say so.”

Heather felt that familiar wave of frustration and anger come over her. Every time, Sophia acts like she knows something but never says it directly, raising Heather’s hopes only to let her down, making her really mad.

Sophia smirked, “Since you aren’t interested in my info, I’ll go. Enjoy your time at the hospital.”

Heather thought she was crazy. But just as Sophia was about to leave the room, Heather called out, “Hey, wait.”

“300 thousand, right? Here you go,” Heather said through clenched teeth, immediately sending the money to Sophia.

Sophia’s smile finally looked real. Seeing Heather so angry, she even gave some “kind” advice with fake concern.

“Heather, I have been your daughter all these years. Wouldn’t it be better to give me the money than to some illegitimate kid later?” Sophia said with a mocking smile.

Heather was far from happy. “Just tell me,” she snapped.

Sophia said, “Jonathan feels guilty. He’s actually thinking about whether to acknowledge his illegitimate kid as part of the family.”

Heather’s last hope was shattered. Her face twisted with fury and despair; she said nothing, but Sophia saw her face change and heard her teeth grinding

in anger.

Sophia scoffed, “If Jonathan really wants to acknowledge his illegitimate son, we can’t stop him. We might as well play nice and welcome him into the Chandler family first.”

Heather, her eyes red with rage, yelled, “Why should we?”

Sophia blinked innocently. “Jonathan is his dad.”

Heather’s shoulders sank, tears filling her eyes. “Over my dead body will that bastard come into our house.”

Sophia said coolly, “Jonathan is determined to bring that kid in. The more you fight, the more he’ll pity that illegitimate son. In the end, you’ll only push Jonathan away, and that’s just what the kid wants.”

Heather’s tears ran down her face. Sophia sighed in frustration as she watched Heather cry uncontrollably. With clear disgust, Sophia threw a box of tissues at her.

Sophia said, “Come on, don’t be upset. Even If Jonathan has an illegitimate son, you’re still the real Mrs. Chandler Don’t forget, you her All of us together can outsmart just one kid,

“Let’s be smart about it. Instead of leaving the illegitimate son out there, it’s better to keep him close. So we can watch him and stop him from dow anything behind out back.

Heather clenched her jaw and said nothing. Sophia didn’t push further. “Think about it,” she said calmly. “Think about your five kids!

Sophia left, taking the fruit with her. Heather, too sad to notice, sat crying alone in the hospital room. Only when she realized she was truly alone did she finally break down and cry uncontrollably.

With a happy smile on her lips, Sophia hummed a cheerful tune as she headed to Yvette’s hospital room. Kevin hadn’t left her side for days.

Sophia frowned as she looked at Yvette, still unconscious. Her injuries weren’t as bad as Heather’s–by all the medical rules, she should’ve woken up already. ‘Something’s not right,‘ Sophia thought.

Just as Sophia was trying to figure it out, Monica burst out of the elevator–her hair messy, looking totally frantic. Two nurses were chasing after her. “Where’s Yvette?” she asked.

Monica held up a photo of herself with Yvette. The nurse only let her go upstairs after calling Heather to check.

“Kevin, are you really abandoning me?” When Monica saw Kevin, her legs gave out and she sank to her knees, crying hard in total despair.

Kevin was surprised to see Monica like that. He quickly rushed over to help her up. “Mom, what happened? Who did this to you?”

Monica threw herself into Kevin’s arms, crying nonstop. Holding tight to his shirt, she looked terrified he’d leave her.

“The debt collectors came right after you left.” Monica cried wildly. “They smashed everything and pushed me around. Why didn’t you come home? Have you abandoned me?”

Kevin felt guilty. Seeing the bruise on his mother’s forehead made him feel worse and angrier. Sophia pushed down her sunglasses, tired of this emotional scene, and stepped into the elevator.

Just as she left, her phone rang–it was Mira calling. “Ms. Chandler, I hope I’m not bothering you?” Mira asked softly.

Mira added, “Larry’s family is here. He told me it was you who helped find them. Thank

you so much.”

Sophia paused for a few seconds, then softly asked, “You don’t blame me?”

Mira sniffled, voice trembling. “How could I blame you, Ms. Chandler? I can never thank you enough.”
