The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 437

After leaving Niall's house, Nolan wandered through the village. It had been many years since his last visit, and the changes in the village were stark and sweeping. Yet, perhaps the greatest change wasn't in the streets or buildings, but in the hearts of its people.

Scarlet noticed the darkened expression on Nolan's face. In a soft voice, he asked, "Mr. Greene, you were barely able to hold back just now. Why didn't you simply expose Sharon's crimes right there and then?"

Nolan sighed softly at the question. "It'll only hurt Niall in the end. But what needs to be done must still be done. We'll wait until the right time and handle everything together. That way, my parents won't end up causing Niall additional hurt."

Just then, someone recognized Nolan.

"Wait a second, aren't you… Nolan? You're the Greenes' youngest son, right? What are you doing back here? Aren't you supposed to be in prison?" asked a middle-aged woman in a shocked voice, as if she had just seen the most unbelievable thing in the world.

Nolan's expression remained unchanged as he let out a light chuckle. "It's not like I was sentenced to life. It's only natural for me to get out of prison once my time is up."

The middle-aged woman seemed to realize she might have misspoken. She smiled awkwardly and said, "Well, it's good you're out. Now that you're back, just live an honest life, alright? No more doing anything questionable, you hear?"

Nolan nodded with a polite smile, choosing not to respond further. But deep down, he knew it wouldn't take long before news of his release—and his return to Rio Village—spread like wildfire. Though what people would say about it was anyone's guess.
