Aiden Finnegan's Medical Odyssey novel Chapter 41

For some reason, Angelina's heart twinged inexplicably when she heard such words from Aiden. In reality, she was a very old-fashioned lady, or she would have divorced Aiden after Ronald passed away. Since she had promised Ronald that she would go on living with Aiden, she thought she would do her best to accept him, though she had trouble communicating with him in the process because of her competitive personality.

"When Grandpa was on his deathbed, he told me to make a go of our marriage, saying that you're not an ordinary person," she said with a blush. "He had always doted on me since I was little and would never hurt me, so I promised him that, thinking you were just a hidden talent or something. In the days afterward, I could feel how much you cared about me. It was just that I was forced by Uncle Eric to step down as company president afterward, plus you were goofing around without a decent job, so my attitude toward you went from bad to worse. Actually, I didn't mean anything else. I just wanted you to have a career of your own, Aiden," she said before quietly looking at him.

Aiden nodded, saying, "I know. Don't worry about the Gray Enterprise. You'll become its president again in no time."

Angelina was surprised by the note of strong confidence in his voice when he said that. During the last three years spent as a live-in husband, he had never spoken as confidently as he did today. She would have believed him if it weren't for him still being at a loose end at the moment. "Aiden, do you really want to open a medical center?" she asked, fixing her eyes on him.

Instead of answering her question, Aiden merely asked, "In that case, do you believe me?"

Angelina fell silent. In reality, she didn't believe him. Today, however, she was here for the purpose of having a heart-to-heart talk with him, so she said against her conscience, "I believe you. It's just that I don't think it's profitable to run a medical center nowadays."

Aiden smiled after listening to her reply. "Thank you." He thanked her, not because she said she believed him, but because she chose to spare his feelings despite not believing him. "So, how's the thing with Avirax Medicare going?" he asked.

"I have yet to go there. To be frank, I don't know where to start," Angelina replied with a frown the instant she heard him ask about this. Obviously, she was stressed out because of this.

Seeing how she looked, Aiden felt rather sorry for her. For some reason, he couldn't seem to get angry at her; even if he did, he would forget about it as soon as the next day. "What about we give it a try now?" he suddenly suggested.

Angelina was stunned by his words. "Now? Are you kidding? I'm not ready yet!" she objected hurriedly.

"I read your stars, and it says you'll have a pleasant surprise today. Let's have a go at it together, shall we?" Aiden replied with a smile.

Angelina laughed in annoyance at his reply. She grumbled coquettishly, "You read my stars? When did you believe in horoscopes?"

Hearing the tone of her voice, Aiden fell under the delusion that they were a long-time couple flirting with one another. "Trust me! You'll absolutely get a payoff if you go today," he insisted with a smile.

Angelina did seem to be in a good mood today. She gave him one of her looks, saying, "To hell if I'm gonna believe you. Is this how you fooled the Thatchers back then?" The instant she finished the sentence, she realized she had put her foot in her mouth. She quickly corrected herself, saying, "That's not what I mean! I was just joking!"

Aiden thought nothing of it, though. On the contrary, he was warmed by her gestures. "This is the first time you care about how I feel." This is a good start at least, for she's at least begun to care about my feelings. Who knows how long it will last, but it's good, anyway!

Angelina felt somewhat embarrassed upon hearing this. Seems like I've been really mean to him over the last three years.

They both fell silent without a word. After a long time, Aiden said, "Let's give it a try."

"Are you serious?!" Angelina asked while staring at him in surprise.

Much to her astonishment, Aiden looked at her seriously, saying, "Of course I am!" Then, he joked somewhat teasingly, "Don't tell me you're wussing out as the future head of the Gray Enterprise?"

Seeing how she behaved like the little woman, Aiden finally experienced the bliss of marriage for the very first time. Such is how simple a man is; his mood is easily affected by his beloved's every move. Was there a monarch in history who did not choose his beloved over his own country? Seeing how she walked ahead of him petulantly, he quickly caught up to her, saying with a smile, "Want me to give you a boost of confidence?"
