Angelina smacked Aiden's hand away, much to his surprise. He stood petrified.
She glared at him and hissed, "You don't have anything to say for yourself now, do you?"
He shot her a look of resignation. "Not like you'd believe me, anyway."
"You've known her for a while now, haven't you?" she asked through gritted teeth.
He nodded in affirmation. "Yes."
"So, you guys have been dating behind me all this time!" Fury filled Angelina's heart.
A bitter smile tugged at Aiden's lips. "I've told you, Angelina. Nothing is going on between Gina and me. I first met her during your family's event. I was running late, so I ran as fast as I could. Then, her car crashed into me, and I was taken to the hospital. The painting I got for your grandma was ruined from the crash, but thankfully, Gina had the same painting."
Angelina's heart skipped a beat when she heard of the accident. She remembered seeing him looking worse for wear when he came to the hotel. She was worried, but she said nothing.
Aiden continued, "As I've said, she crashed into me that day. When I regained consciousness, I realized I had a perfect memory. It was the same time I started getting into medicine. And I could remember all the books I have read, word by word."
Angelina still looked at him coldly. "I was not asking you that. Even if you haven't known her for that long, how do you explain the time when you took her to the hotel?"
"That was a misunderstanding. I've told you that Gina was drunk."
"And what did that have to do with you? She could've asked someone else for help." Angelina was getting angrier. "And you didn't even come back that night. You two were in a hotel, yet you claim nothing happened. How do you expect me to believe that?"
"But that's the truth. Nothing happened. She knows I'm married. You're reading too much into this," said Aiden.
Angelina wanted to believe him, but she couldn't. She got angry every time she recalled how he was holding Gina. "You're trying to get back at me, aren't you?" She looked at the man like a hurt kitten.
"I would never try to get back at you." He shook his head.
"As if. You have received nothing but humiliation in my family, and you now know all these rich people. Yet, you claim you'd never get back at me? I bet you're just trying to look for a better woman and tell me how good you are. Fine, you did it!" she roared.
Angelina tried to leave, but Aiden stopped her. "Why won't you believe me? We're innocent. You know how much I love you. We've been married for three years."
"Out of my way," she said coldly.
Aiden looked into her eyes, which were devoid of any emotions, and froze on his spot. She went around him and left. He saw her off with a bitter smile. "She must be mad. I'll explain things to her tonight." Nevertheless, he was still sad about the look she gave him. I'm nothing but a man married into her family in her eyes. No matter how much I try to explain myself, she won't believe it.
