Aiden Finnegan's Medical Odyssey novel Chapter 53

Angelina wasn't as angry anymore. Harvey knew Aiden, and so did Angelina. She might not be nice to him, but she knew what kind of a man he was. And everyone in Keyland knew that despite Gina's sultry appearance, she never had a partner. It didn't seem logical that she would sleep with Aiden just after they met each other.

When Aiden told Angelina she could chase him out after listening to his explanation, she couldn't help but feel a small prick in her heart. Why would he speak to me so humbly? Is it because of the family? But it's not his family. And he already has a business. He can make enough money to feed himself.

She figured that Aiden only took everything in silence for her. If she weren't around, he would have left the family. That was the truth. Otherwise, he had no reason to stay under the same roof with her sharp-tongued mother. "Just stand right there. You can explain yourself without coming closer," said Angelina.

Aiden closed the door and responded, "But I've been standing around the whole afternoon. Won't you let me sit as I speak?"

Her heart went out to him after hearing that he had been busy the whole afternoon. Still, she remained silent. She was reminded of the check he gave her that morning, and she thought he might actually be a doctor with remarkable medical skills. Nobody would consult him otherwise. She then snapped, "Just do whatever you want."

Aiden smiled at her response and sat beside her.

"There's a chair over there." Angelina blushed and tensed up slightly.

"The chair is too hard for comfort. Your bed is much comfier and softer. Besides, I've never sat on your bed." He chuckled.

She glanced at him. For the last three years, he would only come into her room to deliver something, and then he would leave right after that. He had never sat on any chair in her room, let alone her bed. She felt another pang in her heart as she thought of that. In the end, she didn't make further comments about it.

Aiden could tell that Angelina wasn't angry anymore. With a gentle tone, he said, "I know the last three years haven't been kind to you. I know you don't like your grandpa's arrangement, but you love him, so you kept quiet. You're the prettiest girl in Keyland, and this marriage must have made you a laughingstock. I can understand your frustration with me, but I know you would never go too far. I know you want me to be better. The moment you stopped your mother from yelling at me, I knew. But you're just too headstrong to tell me that."

She turned around and sternly said, "Don't change the subject. You still haven't cleared things up."

Despite her words, Aiden noticed the delight in her eyes. Helena's tip worked. "After the argument we had, I wanted to stroll around to clear my mind. I ran into Gina at the riverbank. She had just gotten out of an argument with her family. We talked, and she took me to a bar, though I never would have expected that she was such a lousy drinker. She was knocked out after a few rounds. She was already wasted when I took her to the hotel, and she even puked all over my shirt. You can ask the hotel staff for confirmation. They had to wash my clothes for me." Aiden looked at her and continued, "Then, it got too late, and she was still unconscious, so I slept on the sofa the whole night. That was what happened that night. You can call Gina if you want more proof."

He knew Angelina well enough to be sure that she wouldn't call. Even if she did call, he wasn't scared. He and Gina were innocent. Back when Aiden was explaining things to Harvey, Angelina was already listening in. She had been waiting for him this whole time. She wanted to see if Aiden would come to her to explain himself right away.

He did, but she was still annoyed that Gina was leaning on him that night. "What about your medical center, then? Was it really a reward for treating Arnold? What kind of illness did he have?" She glared at Aiden.

Aiden heaved a sigh of relief in silence. Alright, that's done with. "I've saved his life," he replied.
