Betrayed, But Not Defeated novel Chapter 279

At this moment, Edward was doing his best to maintain his composure.

He had to admit—his courage was no joke. After all, he had actually followed Daniel's instructions and came straight to Zidane to collect the debt.

"I'd love to see which bold fool has the gall to come to my doorstep and demand money from me!" Zidane sneered as he stepped outside.

Edward immediately put on his best friendly smile and approached Zidan. "Mr. Wilcox! Surely you remember me, right? It's Edward!"

Zidane gave him a cold glance. "Mr. Grylls, what exactly do you mean by this?"

"Mr. Wilcox, you know what they say—a debt must be repaid—"

Before he could finish, Zidane slapped him across the face.

The moment Edward got hit, his men tensed up and surrounded them, ready to retaliate.

However, Zidane smirked smugly as his subordinates behind him drew their guns, aiming them at Edward's crew.

Edward and his men froze on the spot.

"What the hell is this? Are you actually here to shake me down for money? Edward, you're quite a bold one, aren't you?" Zidane grabbed Edward by the hair and yanked his head back.

With so many guns pointed at him, Edward didn't dare resist.

Instead, he kept his forced smile and said, "Mr. Wilcox, rules are rules. Besides, I'm only here because Mr. Ashcroft sent me personally—"

"Bullshit!" Zidane landed another vicious slap across Edward's face.

"You think Daniel would even bother with a nobody like you? And let's get one thing straight—that money was taken by Jennifer Walsh. If you want your money back, go ask her. Do you really think I'm someone you could push around?"

In Zidane's mind, this was a joke. There was no way Daniel actually sent Edward here.

These loan sharks probably never even met Daniel. They probably just heard about his reputation and figured they could use his name to intimidate him.
