Daniel nodded, then took note of Edward's cheek, which was still red from the slaps.
With a grin, he patted Edward on the shoulder. "You've got it rough, huh? It's tough to make a living nowadays, isn't it?"
Then, he turned his attention to Zidane, his face still full of smiles.
Zidane never expected Daniel to actually show up.
His face visibly tensed for a brief moment before he quickly snapped at his men.
"Didn't you see Mr. Ashcroft arrive? What the hell are you all doing? Lower your weapons!"
Though reluctant, Zidane's men begrudgingly holstered their firearms.
While seething, Zidane forced a smile. "Mr. Ashcroft, there's been a misunderstanding! This fool was trying to scam me, so I just gave him a little scare. But, of course, a debt must be repaid—it's only right!"
Regardless, he didn't dare delay and quickly signed a check before sticking it in Edward's pocket.
"There you go—it's paid in full. Hold onto it tightly, Mr. Grylls. You wouldn't want to lose that check!"
"Thank you, Mr. Wilcox!"
Edward felt his heart racing at Zidane's thinly veiled warning, but he wasn't about to argue. He quickly handed over the IOU, ensuring the transaction was complete.
Zidane took one look at the amount owed, and his stomach dropped.
It was an outright robbery! The original loan was only two million, yet he was charged a full ten million! It was no wonder being a loan shark was such a lucrative business!
Edward wasn't stupid. He knew that lingering here any longer was asking for trouble.
He made up his mind—as soon as he left, he was skipping town. If Zidane caught him later, there was no doubt that he would lose his life.
Daniel watched Edward leave with a wide grin on his face. Then, he turned back to Zidane.
The pained expression on Zidane's face only strengthened Daniel's urge to laugh.
